I believe it was cancelled because... you can only have so much fun... according to the NHL.

That's sad if true. A lot of spontaneous occurrences have become fan-building lore. White towels in Vancouver... jerks in Carolina... even green hard hats in Calgary. A Winnipeg White-Out with Helmets? Helmet manufacturers are league sponsors.

It's crazy that players that were drafted several years into Calgarypuck's existence are retiring. Time flies people

What's more crazy or sad is that he's probably one of Darryl Sutter's more successful draft picks.

342 games - as i recall at one time players needed to get to 400 games to qualify for the NHL pension that delivered something like $200k per year

The Flames made 59 picks under Sutter, Pardy is 6th in total NHL games played, with Ferland being the only active player behind him. Ferland should pass him next season.

Just came from Newfoundland and while planing my route on that east side considered going to Bonavista just for the laugh and to see if they had a home of Adman Pardy sign. The 300+ km one way from St Johns ended a little to far and had to settle for the surprise Ryan Clowe sign on the southern part of the island.

In a 2005 interview with CalgaryPuck, head scout Tod Button was asked which prospect was his darkhorse pick, a player that didn't get fanfare but would be an NHL player. His answer?
Adam Pardy.

Brodie, Backlund, Phaneuf... who else? Bouma maybe?
edit: Bouma was correct, Brandon Prust was the other one.

Most noteable for Loubardias’ infatuation, and the July 1 2011 UFA thread when he was one of the first signings that day and made $2m per year for 2y.
Working theory is that Nieuwendyk (Dallas GM) messed up something, like meant to be a 4 year deal $2m or something. For him to be snapped up, at a gross overpay, and, then he lasted one year, that was a major blunder by the Stars.

It got banned by Jets owner Mark Chapman
Quote:
The Winnipeg Jets are banning any fans from showing up at tonight's game against the visiting Chicago Blackhawks wearing a helmet — the brainchild of a local radio station to mimic the Blackhawks fan who earlier this month grabbed the helmet off Jets player Adam Pardy in Chicago.
Jets owner Mark Chipman made the announcement Wednesday at the MTS Centre to nix the "stunt," noting, "Whatever was planned was not official. It wasn't anything from us. We think it reflects poorly on the entire situation.
"It's almost absurd for us to participate in something that brought us down to the base act that caused all this."
Chipman said no fans would be allowed in the arena with a helmet.
|
Quote:
The decision seemed heavy-handed to some fans and downright dictatorial to the radio station promoting the "Helmet Pardy."
"I guess I was surprised by the objection... because it appears to be strictly political," said Scott Armstrong, general manager and program director at 92 CITI FM. "Clearly it was more important for the Jets to show support for the Blackhawks than show support for their fans.
"We're not asking them (fans) to do anything untoward like pour beer on someone's head, like Chicago fans do."
The promotion, said Armstrong, started as a good-natured lark: a parody of the Chicago fan who on Nov. 6 snatched the helmet off the head of Pardy after the Jets defenceman had crashed through the Plexiglas. The photo of the fan, holding a beer and wearing Pardy's helmet, went viral.
