If Ottawa offered 2 of Batherson, Norris, and Pinto-I would at least be interested….

And they’re cheap cheap cheap. They don’t want to trade entry level cheap players for a 7-9mill contract.

So, how often does a big trade occur this late in the offseason? I'm thinking we're pretty much looking at the 21-22 Flames

Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Monahan - Coleman
Dube - Backlund - Pitlick
Lucic - XXXXXX - Lewis

Ritchie

Hanifin - Tanev
Zadorov - Andersson
Valimaki - XXXXXX

Markstrom
Vladar

I don't see any big changes happening at this point either, to be honest.

Sutter is going to have to get that team punching above its weight class to do any damage if that is indeed the finished product IMO

It's a different season. Flat cap. Short off season. The Eichel situation.

The most likely scenario is the Flames will make a depth move or two. But I don't think a big move is unreasonable.

I see this as the most likely scenario as well (though I would love to be surprised), and I also see it as entirely unacceptable.

I'd hope that at a minimum Gaudreau should be extended. If not? Well… the possibility of successfully navigating this season is approximately 3,720 to 1. I just can't see things lining up well if we go into the season with a soon to be UFA Gaudreau and soon to be (and possibility disgruntled) Tkachuk.

One reason for hope in my eyes is that season ticket holders have not been invited to any information sessions as of yet. This has me holding onto hope that they’re waiting to make a splash before sending out details on those sessions because if they don’t do something noteworthy prior to those? The STHs are not going to be pleased as the narrative for the season they’re trying to sell us is rather rubbish at this stage.

I agree. Besides a depth add on D this is the team. I hope BT gets Johnny’s extension done before training camp.

Honestly, just take out Parayko, throw in a 2nd and I'd still do that trade IMO. Essentially Tkachuk for Kyrou and a 1st and a 2nd, Tarasenko coming turns what would have been a 3rd into the 2nd.

Gaudreau - Eichel - Tarasenko
Mangiapane - Lindholm - Coleman
Lucic - Backlund - Kyrou
4th line

Hanifin - Tanev
Zadorov - Andersson
Valimaki - Mackey

Markstrom

That is just so... underwhelming but the longer this goes, the less optimistic I am something big happens. Hopefully I'm wrong and this makes the big trade all the more surprising when it goes down.

How far in advance before training camp do they usually have the STH info sessions? That's interesting, I thought they would already have had sessions done or scheduled at least by this point in the offseason. I hope that means they're busy behind the scenes, because I am also starting to accept that this will probably be the team come training camp.

If that is our line up, I’d like to add Vatanen for a one year powerplay specialist.

What about Eric Staal for a veteran 4th line center?

In normal years, they usually have them in early-June during the Finals.

If we can’t make a big deal, Dube and Valimaki had better show a lot of growth and Andersson needs to be the player we thought he was. I also hope that Hanifin has more offence to give.

There is still $4M or so of cap space available, after Zadorov, Valimaki and Dube are inked, and Vladar is included. So I think we'll see one more addition (or trade) yet.

Currently $11.4M in cap space

Guessing $3.75 (NZ) + $1 (JV) + $1.5 (DD) + $0.75 = $7M, leaving $4.4M

And that would be 22 players, including Froese. You could drop him, and add a $5M guy, and run with 22 skaters.

I doubt Treliving just sits on that much cap space.

Yeah the team literally never has in the modern era.

No way they are done.

Doesn't mean the move coming is going to be a game changer, but it's something for sure.

Assuming the off season is just over makes little sense.

In many ways I agree with you in terms of wanting to see growth in their games. Sometings to consider perhaps:

-Valimaki and Andersson play (outside of goalie) the most difficult position because of the consequences of mistakes.

-When Dube is added to the list it creates a pause because that is a lot of pressure on very young guys (with the aformentioned already dealing with the difficulty of position). Yes they are big boys and pros but having a focus on all their shifts - waiting to critique - is not good for the psyche/confidence of any player. You want your players to be confident so they execute.

The team needs to ensure that they do everything to support their young guys ie make sure you put them in positions to succeed by playing them with players that can take the pressure off - on and off the ice (hopefully fans have patience as the ills of social media have already been shown to affect young athletes).

For me, I've already seen all those guys play at a high level in the NHL (varying amounts of time) so I see bright futures (immediate and down the road).

Kylington (excited for him too) spoke about Sutter, his system and how it's easier for the defencemen because they know the routes the forwards have to be in and I think the defence will really improve from the start of last year.

Again though, I really want to see support for the young defencemen and pairing them up with complementary players/skillsets so they can return to that high level of play.

Don’t think it’s feasible for XXXXXX to play both offence and D.
