I'm actually kind of surprised Ronaldo would join city.
I always thought he had that Michael Jordan / Kobe Bryant gene where he'd never be able to go to a direct rival like that.

Why?
If anything Ronaldo strikes me as the ultimate Mercenary.
Not going to get into all of it, but Ronaldo seems like someone who understands that a career in professional sports is typically short and he has become supremely adept at wringing every nickel out of it.
He has nothing left to prove, now its just about who is going to pay his exorbitant fees until he retires and after this pandemic there is a very short list of clubs who can afford it.

Absolutely this. Money talks and he's well aware of that.

objectively, it makes sense. He won't win another CL title if he stays at Juventus, so if he wants to win another one, this is his best move ... they were close last season and he'll walk into that team has the main striker.
as a United fan, this is obviously a massive kick in the nuts, but let's face it - romanticism in football is truly dead. The two best footballers of the last 15 years and arguably two of the best to ever play this game are moving to state-funded plastic clubs this summer. Better get used to it, I guess.

Six years at United. Nine years at Madrid. That's the "ultimate mercenary"?

Yeah.
He has his trophies. He's done his time as a 'Club Man.'
Whatever else you want to think about Ronaldo, he is in the twilight of his career. He stuck with United even though they couldnt compete in Europe, he made up for that at Madrid.
Now its just about the paycheque which is likely the only reason he's leaving Juventus. They cant afford him anymore.
I dont think he really cares about winning the Premier League or the Champions' League. He's done all that already. Now he's about collecting paycheques.
But thats not a bad thing. "Greed is Good."
Like Messi, he is still a very good player. If all he costs you is money and you're an Oil Sheikh, then he's hardly costing you anything at all.
Who cares if Manchester United fans get bent out of shape so long as your paycheque clears?

dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Ronaldo left United in 09 ... right after winning the CL in 08 and reaching the final again in 09. They then made another final in 11, so 3 CL finals in 4 years ... that's the definition of "competing in Europe".

Man City really should have just gone for Lukaku, but they too believed in Levy's "word" for whatever reason. Ronaldo is a decent fallback option I guess.

I am a giant fan of Lukaku, I think he is an amazing player. But even all that considered Ronaldo is the superior player.

It's not always about superior player, Lukaku would be a much better fit into their system. That doesn't mean Ronaldo won't feast with maybe the best service he'll ever have, I just think Lukaku would have made them much more dangerous because he's become so good with his link up play. Ronaldo isn't really that kind of guy.

He may be older, but if I'm Man City and I have to choose between 'Arry Kane and Ronaldo?
I take Ronaldo every time.
Have fun in Tottenham 'Arry!

Amazing to think Ronaldo and Rooney are the same age, almost perfectly illustrates the problem with England, on and off the pitch

Oh? Why’s that?
vs, of course how they played, trained and care for themselves individually.
