I see no evidence for this. As a fellow bystander, there is nothing obvious in how the team plays, how they interact the coaches, what the coaches say in public to indicate one way or another whether the issue is coaching. It could be, but given the history that this group has with previous coaches I suspect more than likely the problems start with the players.

Could very well be the players, but it's also the type of coach been hired for the past while. As great as Treliving is as a GM, save a few deals, his coaching decisions have been more or less the same type of coach. I do think a guy like Trotz is in order with this type of team. Look at Babcock who is very much the same as Peters. These guys with a fairly young team seem to want to be too hard with them and it's a delicate line. Surely you could probably do that a bit with more established teams who have more vets, but to do that to young millionaires is an easy way to lose them. Players talk and get annoyed at moronic bosses. I don't think in hockey culture this is considered enough, but you have to look at the make up of your team and see what's best. For a young team, I don't think that type of "leadership" is ideal.

Darryl Sutter seems like a guy, by all accounts, that knows how to push buttons with respect to being accountable to your teammates.

Also I could see him addressing the team letting them know how people perceive them, and rallying around that

If I was to trade Johnny, here are players I would target:

Couturier
Dubois
Tkahcuk

Unpopular opinion alert

I’m not that worried about either Gaudreau or Monahan. They’re both sitting at about half of their normal shooting percentages. One stat? Yes. Do I care? No. This is one stat that I put a ton of stock in.

They’ll come roaring back and this team will have a deep playoff run. They need to add a piece in the top six not sell their best players. Luckily we have a GM who’s not dumb.

Caveat: something is happening off ice that none of us are aware of.

Maybe, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't still be stressful.
On JG and his state of mind; he has always seemed like the player who was the man, a baller, the big dog. He wants the game on his stick; he's not afraid of the moment. I recall that snipe in the playoffs in 2015 with 20 seconds left in the game. He isn't playing that way right now. Who knows why.

I think trading him during this season would be folly unless the return was show stopping.

Buffalo fans also didn't mind offering Reinhart + Middlestat.

That would have to be considered greatly.

Taking a flyer on Middlestat but if he turns into the player he was projected to be we could very well win the trade.

Having Reinhart would add another RW/C option who like Lindholm is very solid defensively.

The players are just like all of us in the sense that they want to spend their time in a happy and rewarding work environment. Getting barked at like dogs is not happy and rewarding. Players want to win but for most I think if the coach thinks winning requires making the workplace toxic - that’s ending badly.

Players hope and expect to be a champion at some point. Doesn’t have to be this year or with this team. More important that coming to the rink is enjoyable.

Fans who expect players to put up with crap from coaches, are misinformed on who holds the power in the room.

It ain’t bill peters. Nobody is buying tickets and merchandise because bill peters is here except for his family and friends

100%. It’ll be interesting to see if they can solve it or if we’ll ever catch wind of what it is. If they can move past it then I can see your scenario playing out as well.

I heard Mike Babcock got fired today. I also heard there are some early Black Friday deals starting already. I better get my shopping list out. Let the savings begin.....

Reinhart is still a very good player though who plays a quality two way game but of course Gaudreau is worth far more.

If Middlestat can turn into a quality second line center this deal becomes a great deal.

All risks considered though it's still a gamble.

So it changed from last year?

this is the same staff and players from last year... did Peters suddenly become an #######?

I get that players eventually tune coaches out, but its been one year... It took the Leafs 5 years to tune out babcock ... 3 if you just want to look at Matthews and Marner.

Calgary tried the soft sell coach with GG already: it failed

For the Flames to accept that package right now the Sabres need to make it a deal the Flames couldn’t refuse. Dylan Cozens would need to be added and potentially an unprotected 1st.

I am sure Buffalo balks at that request but it would take an overpayment to move Johnny right now. In the summer 30 teams can and would likely make offers so if they do move on that is the time.

I don't think its a coaching issue this year. I speculating locker room issues.

He’s been our coach for just over a season and a bit. Why’s would they fire him now? The one thing that should have been addressed in the past 3 + seasons is lack of scoring on the wing, and a sting centre. Things we’ve been talking about since I’ve join this forum.
