Well that makes sense then. Flames marketing absolutely would do something like that.

It's not like that's where it originates though. Flames social media is just playing with the popularity of the nickname now.

I think the timetable for a third jersey is several years down the the road. The team appears to be transitioning to the originals, both home and away. That process will take a few seasons.
I would expect any third to be completely original in design, with the horsehead reserved for a future Heritage Classic.
Which reminds me, there's yet to be a Battle of Alberta Heritage Classic. Something that is inevitable. The Calgary Flaming Snothorses vs. the Edmonton Mechanical Sperms?

Classic home and aways
04' Reds for the third.
This is easy.

Another possibility (and a good one) for a Heritage Classic kit.
My point is that they're moving towards the original retros as everyday uniforms. Another retro as the third doesn't make sense from a marketing perspective. Trot those out for Heritage Classics.

Has anyone actually heard someone say this nickname out loud?

It was always described as "Flaming Snothorse" or "Flaming Snotgoat" during its actual run. "Ol' Blasty" is recent.
I think it's positioned to be a tertiary logo in auxiliary merchandise. Don't see it returning to on-ice kits anytime soon.

The earliest reference I could find was from 2012:
Quote:
Okay, look, we’ve all said all we could ever hope to say about the Young Guns. It was hopeless, adorable, frustrating, kind of entertaining, and then going back to frustrating. There were a lot of characters that found their way onto the squad (I mentioned Sasha Lakovic, yes?), unreal dilemmas (The season of 1000 goalies comes to mind), low expectations, the implication that a 34 year old Tommy Albelin was a "Young Gun", the emergence of guys like Derek Morris and Jarome Iginla, and really only Derek Morris and Jarome Iginla, and of course, Ol’ Blasty, the Horsehead Jersey. It was kind of fun to watch if you could just accept the fact that the team was probably going to lose.

The timeline is typically quite long, but I actually wouldn't be surprised if the Flames switch jerseys full-time next season.
Unsurprisingly, the 2-4 year timetable typically given on jersey re-designs is fabricated on policies. But I doubt they'll actually hold up swapping these considering they're already designed and the Flames haven't changed palettes in decades.

Snotgoat?! I interacted with literally hundreds of fans back then and never once heard the term snotgoat. Where are all these horsehead nicknames coming from all these years later?

"Flaming Horse Head" is what I remember it being referred to. I also remember some people who insisted it was a dragon head.
One thing that we could all agree on though, was that it sucked.

Are we still on the "Ol Blasty" thing. I'm fairly certain Rick Bell coined this phrase in the Sun way back when the jerseys were still being worn. It's not a new term, it's an old one.
Allow for the possibility that just because "you" (the general "you" not anyone specific) haven't heard the term doesn't mean it's new. It just literally means you haven't heard it before.
There, now isn't that a better way of looking at this?

A better way would have been to simply inform us of that detail.

I disagree- I think it's a great secondary logo, but it would look awkward and silly on the front of a jersey.

I think we could do a Columbus style 3rd jersey with it, like this:

Yeah, I suppose a circular logo never looks terrible.
Maybe it's just me, but when take a look it screams shoulder patch to me. It might be the fact that the logo is more about Calgary than anything Flames related. I the the CF is a little cheesy and forced as well.
