Default Senior RCMP Civillian member busted for espionage

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/rcm...arge-1.5280643

Quote:
A senior member of the RCMP has been arrested and charged under the Security of Information Act, CBC News has learned.

The rarely used national security law deals with cases of espionage by foreign powers.

The individual is a civilian member of the force.

Betting China is involved.

Dude had expertise in "East Asian Affairs". I'm betting China too considering the hot potato relationship right now between the two, and probable elevated focus on PRC agents working inside Canada.

For those who might be curious - CSIS investigates, analyzes and disseminates information on national security threats, while the RCMP handles the internal policing to deal with the threats. I hope this case isn't taken lightly, corruption and influence in our policing efforts is dangerous.

I suppose we'll never know how deep it goes. My guess is that there are many people involved.

This story is becoming massive.

And it involves our allies, the American's tipped us off

He had access to not only internal highly sensitive data, but data from our allies in 5 eyes.

But the Canadians did not figure this guy out on there own.
Well that's not the least bit embarrassing. Our allies must also be impressed.

I would expect that our allies aren't going to share with us until they're sure the leaks are completely plugged.

I think that he can't screw it up (I know what you're going to say Rube) but investigations like this and intelligence sharing are on auto pilot based on the agreements signed.

Where the Orange Idiot could screw it up is the retaliation if it is the Chinese (And I'm making the bold assumption that it is).

This is pretty close to equivalent if not potentially bigger then

I'm worried that in his rush to brag about something he had no role in, he exposes trade secrets or sensitive info he shouldn't be sharing. He's done it before.

Sure, I'm not as worried about that as this.

Usually these kind of investigations are wide reaching and really destructive.

Ditto. At this point I wouldnt trust the RCMP to write a traffic ticket to an indigent vagrant uttering sardonic greetings.

maybe i am just naive - but it sickens me to think that Canadians working at a place like the rcmp with a proud legacy (although is likely a real stretch based on stuff over the past 15 or so years) are willing to sell out their countrymen

it will be interesting to see where this story goes and what information gets published in the media
