Wasn't a huge fan of Slipknot in their earlier days, but really digging their newer stuff. The Grey Chapter is probably my favorite album they've put out, and the single for the upcoming album sounds great

Listening to that takes me back to their Iowa days. I like. A little more tamed than that album but it's good. Always had a fondness for that big drum sound.

EDIT: Kind of ripping off Parkway Drive from the 3:30 mark onward. You can hear the same breaks on Deep Blue. Not sure if I like it or hate it. Deep Blue is hallowed ground to me.

Really looking forward to their new album in January
Pfft. The real heart of Soilwork was Peter Wichers. He's the genius that came up with some of the most inventive, unexpected, and totally awesome harmonic progressions I've heard from a melodic metal band. I'll never forget watching the "making of" video for The Panic Broadcast and when asked what a song was called he says "A-minor blues." But if you listen carefully, it really was. And if you go all the way back to the beginning, almost all of their music he wrote was heavily blues based, just wrapped up in a death metal blanket.

Steelbath Suicide
Chainheart Machine
A Predator's Portrait (a flawless record in every regard)
Natural Born Chaos (produced by Devin Townsend)
Figure Number Five
Stabbing The Drama

Then Wichers leaves the band and they record the absolutely terrible "Sworn To A Great Divide."

Then Wichers returns to the band and they record the absolutely outstanding "The Panic Broadcast."

Then Wichers leaves the band again and they record a double album called "The Living Infinite" which was more like The Infinite Meh. Boring as hell. This new cut sounds like it is from the same cloth. Without Wichers they're just a generic, boring band.

I've seen them three times live and loved it every time, but their best songs are all written by Wichers. Go listen to the genius of A Predator's Portrait again then compare it to this, and there is no contest. Peter Wichers IS Soilwork, not Bjorn (although man that guy can sing. Their first two albums didn't have any clean vocals at all, so its great to hear him continuing to stretch vocally).

I dig metal/electronic combos and just stumbled across this recently

Anyone know where I can find more like this?

That sounds pretty decent but I don't know if I would consider that metal/electronic. When I think of metal/electronic I think of industrial stuff like 3Teeth.

Way back before metal had a name, there was Blue Cheer. LSD, rehab, whiskey and fighting. In their spare time, they invented sonic brutality.

one really cool band I've found is Alien Weaponry from New Zealand. A lot of their songs are in te reo Māori. Big Sepultura vibe in those songs ... crazy thing is those kids are all between 16 and 18.

Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton has released a song he recorded with Chester Bennington. And it's absolutely glorious.

If you like black metal fused with a bit of heavy/speed/thrash metal check out these guys, Malokarpatan. Great old school kind of sound. Influences from Bathory, Celtic Frost/Hellhammer, Mercyful Fate.. Recent discovery for me.

one of my fav tracks so far, but check out the whole album, as well as their first album called 'Stridžie dni'.

Anyone else a Children of Bodom fan? New album, 'Hexed' was just released. This album feels more like the classic COB that most people love. Specifically, check out the songs: Hexed, Platitudes and Barren Words, Say Never Look Back, and Knuckleduster!

They're live in Calgary on March 25!

Fleshgod Apocalypse are insane and ridiculous. They really stick to the playing extreme yet symphonic death metal while wearing tuxes thing.

Oddly this new song is quite a bit cleaner and less chaotic than their normal stuff.

Been listening to Demolition Hammer a ton. Ripping brutal thrash metal. Definitely one of my favourites.
