Not happy about the simulcast. Sportsnet is framing it as a Covid related health and safety protocol move, rather than what it really is, a cost-saving measure.

Will we have to listen to Buck describe things on air that a TV viewer can easily deduce but has to be detailed for the radio listener? Dan Shulman should be up to the task as he is arguably an elite player in his field but I enjoy listening to Ben Wagner and Mike Wilner, who they actually let go.

I wonder when the first spring training game will be broadcast on Sportsnet. Can't wait!

Calling a baseball game on radio and television are two completely different things.

What a bunch of cheap ####s.

There will be no radio broadcasts through the majority of the 28-game exhibition schedule — either on-air or on the web — leaving a huge void for the fans of one of the most intriguing teams in baseball this spring.

On the TV side there are currently 10 games scheduled – beginning with Sunday’s opener against the New York Yankees in Tampa. But like most of those shows, it will be the opposing team’s crew calling the action, in this case the YES Network.

Three of those 10 scheduled games will be Sportsnet productions, coming as they do in the final week of the Grapefruit League schedule, which will serve as TD Ballpark dry runs for the regular season. The simulcast of those three will air on radio.

Radio and TV PBP are two fundamentally different things.
On radio you have to paint the picture.
On TV they can see - so you are adding to the visual.

Doing the same thing for both means you are going to be bad at one of them or mediocre at both.

Rogers stranglehold on the sports media landscape in Canada is one of the most frustrating things about being a sports fan in Canada. From their strange production aesthetic, to their pedestrian personalities on the radio and on tv, to the fact they’re only producing 3 Blue Jays spring games, a team that they literally own.

I actually don't mind listening to Jays games on the radio when Howarth was on. There was something about the sound of his voice with the sounds of the crowd in the background, which was refreshing on a lazy summer day. I understand that Rogers is trying to save money, but if there's no background noise with little to no crowds, the games are going to sound really bad with baseball's required dead air. And filling that in with useless chatter as they'll be conscious of that, seems like a no-win situation. Sounds like they'll just do whatever this year in hopes that next year fans will be used to it by then. It probably costs a lot of money to put together these productions so I get it.

Excited to watch some baseball, even if it means that I have to listen to Michael Kay. It is pretty ridiculous that the owners of the Jays can't even bother to broadcast their own teams games.

Wow Biggio first pitch swinging, I wonder if that is part of a new approach to be more aggressive at the plate.

Exciting to be watching the Blue Jays again. Too bad it's short lived with the next ten games or so not broadcast.

Jays stretching King to 20 pitches in the first inning and come away with two runs. Fun start.

The off-centre Blue Jay on the hat logo looks strange.

Tellez is going to force Montoyo to play him everyday, and quite honestly this lineup needs his lefty power bat in it.

Vladdy is so much faster this year, it's great to see. Jays have retired the first 9 straight batters. I hate to sound like a broken record, but man would it be nice to be watching games all this week. Would have been such a great way to get back into the team. Oh well, guess we'll just have to follow stats.
