Yeah, in that little house.
I always chuckled as the Italian restaurants name was "Intenso" which reminded me of the tv show Disenchanment where all the elves are named after some word with an "O" on the end. So to me, it just felt like the owner was just a super intense elf.
Did anyone try it? I never did but Google reviews were always quite high (4.5+)

Anyone tried Hankki on 17th Ave SW? Their corn dogs look really good. How do they compare to a regular one?

A buddy of mine did and said it was quite good - he's pretty picky with Italian restaurants as well.

It’s okay. Their potato corn dog is literally it being rolled in cubed hash browns. Their “sugar crunch” topping is literally coarse sugar. Feels a bit lazy but it is what it is.
I liked their bibimbap bowls
I would need to go again to get a better assessment of the place

Credit to Slava for this tidbit. For the 90 Ave/24th Street SW crowd, the owners of Purlieu (which is very good) have bought Involtini (which is really mediocre), so hoping we might finally get some really good Italian in the area.
Side-note - apparently, the sale does not include Oakridge Pizza, which the Involtini owners will keep, so that is either good or bad news, depending on your perspective. I think it is rather poor, and will stick with Sammy's or Domino's.

Have not tried it since ownership changed. Slava reports it as hit & miss. Will have to give it a try here soon, just for something different...

We tried Om Cuisine on Saturday, it's an Indian restaurant that just recently opened at Southland and Elbow. In the plaza with the 7-Eleven. We had the appetizer Vegetable Platter (samosas, pakoras, etc), the Tandoori sampler and some biryani. Nice spices on everything, nothing was too greasy. The biryani packed a pleasant punch, was even better the next morning. We ordered take away and they were a bit backed up, while I was waiting there was never less than four people waiting for take out. Nice to see a new place doing steady business.
They have a promotion of some sort on, we got 15% off everything which made for a pretty affordable dinner.

Oakridge Pizza was good 40 years ago - I don't know if it is made the same way now. It was the same style as Venus, with the cheese baked over the toppings.

Involtini has decent food at a high-end price. Glad it’s under new ownership. They either need to up their game with the food or bring prices down. If I want to drop $200 on dinner for two I’ll drive into the core and go somewhere good.
As for pizza, if you live in this part of town why in heck would you order from anywhere except Sammy’s?

Didn't it used to be San Remo in Oakridge - then they opened in Marda Loop?
Another similar one is Why Not Italian? in Strathcona.

That Involtini deal is supposed to take affect in the summer (I think July). I love Purlieu, so I'm happy to see this!

Want to give a big shoutout to All Beef Catering & Smokehouse that runs out of the Calgary Soccer Centre. They smoke brisket, turkey, pork, wings, rib roasts every week on Fridays. Really delicious food and great for catered events!

Oddly enough I've never liked Sammys that much, but have enjoyed other menu items. Their cheese bread excellent, as are their wings. But the pizza is too...something. I can't put my finger on it.

They had some of the best wings in town.

Ok a little shout out to To Me on McLeod Trail.
Rolled up today to get subs for me and my daughter.
The owner was outside telling people his debit/CC machine was down.
He told me "come back tomorrow or whenever to pay".
I'll miss their subs...........

I can't be the only one who thinks the entire Calgary steak scene is overrated and bordering on a bit amateur. At the local steakhouses there's minimal dry aging process and the truely superior beef strains are rarely offered, if at all. The whole "Alberta Beef is numba 1" propaganda rammed down our throats is quite tiresome IMO. Yeah its better than the average Australian beef, but its really not that special on the high end side.
