I wouldn't listen either. Ward wet blankets the team with his crap system, when it fails Ward doubles down and tells them to play the system harder.

Media around the team all said “The guys love Wardo” but those guys were Ward cheerleaders from the day the season ended. And can’t really ever recall a player (outside of Lucic) explicitly praising Ward or the system they are playing.

Honestly this team never has played well under him. Even when they were winning down the stretch last year it was on the back of Talbot’s strong play but the underlying numbers had cratered.

I question that these guys have ever been on board with the system and style of play that Ward has been preaching.

They probably liked Ward cause I’d guess he was pretty easy on them. They didn’t have to worry about feeling accountable. A players coach of sorts. These clowns have ran coach after coach out of town. Ward probably said something mean a few weeks ago to someone and they collectively are butt hurt and acting like children with their pathetic efforts. This mess isn’t Xs and Os

I was listening to Brandon Morrison on the radio this morning talking about the Canucks, but it really applied to the current Flames too.

He talked about how needing to think about your play means you're already too late at this level.
It has to be instinctual where you know where your line mates are, what to do in each situation and act immediately without any hesitation.

You can definitely see the Flames have this problem right now. Nothing is happening at a fast enough tempo and it's causing breakdowns throughout the game.
Being a split second off all the time over 60 minutes and through all of your lines really adds up.

If coaching isn't at least part of this, there's no purpose in having coaches.
