I really wish they would take a page out of the 2011 Flyers when they had a young core that had recently actually made the Stanley Cup Finals and still blew it up.
The remnants of the Richards and Carter trade that are still on the Flyers roster a decade later are
Sean Couturier
Joel Farabee
Morgan Frost
Jakob Vorachek

Oh really? lol
The hard working, never give up, winning attitude seems to have evaporated into thin air.

2016 they didn’t eke into the POs. They tanked pretty hard - most goals against in the league. But it was pretty hard to out tank Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto and Columbus. And Winnipeg lucked into second in the lottery.

They also had a very spartan decade after that trade, so there's that.

Thankfully for us we would not know the difference between a Flyers spartan decade and a Flames normal decade so a couple big moves not working out would be hard to notice for us.

Because Pronger’s career ended unexpectedly (trading Bobrovsky didn’t help either).

Sometimes 2015 feels like yesterday. Expecting the tank but ending up with some entertaining hockey and a playoff appearance after a rough drought. Not going to get the gems of the draft but at least there was some optimism and what seemed like great experience for a young team to build off.
Who’d have guessed that may have been this cores peak.

Blow it up and build slow around drafting. I like Carolinas model.

Not that this is the number #1 issue by any stretch but you have to think the team would slightly better off if Nordstrom, Simon, and Leivo weren't a black hole of suck. I know I definitely had higher expectations from those guys. Frickin' Reider has 4 goals already. I was somehow suckered in that these guys might actually do something *sigh*

Those guys are all useless. Rather see some prospects get a few games each.

They each had pedigrees that looked like they could contribute. Massive disappointment. Especially Leivo.

What else do they have in common?
On a team with many underachievers... hmmm

First, the good news...we didn’t lose today.
But also....we didn’t play today.
That’s as positive as I can be about this team

Next year's draft is much better. Try to get multiple first round picks for Young Guns 2.0.

But the Habs & Jets won so they still lost ground on any slim playoff hopes.
Sorry to rain on your good news

Wondering if the Canucks will say the same about last year. We can only hope.

Leivo
2020: .527 PPG
2021: .118 PPG
Simon
2020: .344 PPG
21021: .000 PPG
Nordstrom
2020: .354 PPG
2021: .000 PPG
What do they all have in common this year?
It is the same argument with the core... either everyone on the team got worse this year (kind of a large coincidence, no?) or there is something fundamentally wrong with the team and the way it is being handled.

This is pretty damning for sure. All three of those were excellent depth signings and should be paying dividends right now. Something about this years team stinks to high heaven.

Not just how they're handled...how they're constructed.
It's unrealistic to just assume these PPG's hold the line when playing reduced minutes, with far inferior linemates than their previous clubs.
How they're being deployed is one of a litany of problems.
