Taking a while to get to 5000

Rittich will get the Sens I'd guess. Smith has had a great run and will need a game off regardless.

I never understand why people expect that rookies and veteran players will be treated exactly the same way. It just does not happen, and usually for good reasons.

Btw OP - You forgot the time of the game in the thread title. You have no idea how important that is to some people.

I sure hope the Flames show some killer instinct and step on the throats of the Ducks tonight. They could score 20 goals on this team and I would be cheering for more.

Flames will win 4-1. Because you can't predict a shutout in the GDT
Smith is on a nice little run, so as long as Rittich is staying sharp in practice, I don't care who plays against bottom feeders like Anaheim and Ottawa. It's a bonus if we can keep Rittich fresh for a long playoff run.
GFG!

Rittich is not a rookie and is 26 years old, not exactly Tyler Parsons.
You are also probably the type of person who believes that someone should only get a promotion based on how long they have worked?
"Jack is pretty ####ty at his job but has been with the company for 10 years - make him manager!" -- I personally would rather have the better performer get the promotion, but that's just me. Smith was a good starting goalie in the past but also got paid like one. Now that he is heading towards retirement, you need to replace him with a younger guy or otherwise, we can go into another off-season with no goalies.

Fine with Smith starting, he is playing good right now. No problem playing a goalie on a streak.

Mike Smith could win every game from here to the end and some of you would still want Rittich to start in the playoffs.
Some of you just want to be able to say "I told you so" when Smith gives up a bad goal or the Flames lose.
Smith is deserving of the continued starts because he is playing well. Not much else to it. Doesn't mean the Flames don't think Rittich is the long term guy. Doesn't mean the Flames intend on re-signing Smith.

Before this season he had played a grand total of 21 NHL games. This is the first year he has played as a NHL starter. He is not technically a rookie, but only because he is already 26-years-old.

How exactly do you think tenure works?
Anyways, this is not a permanent "promotion" in the first place.

How is nobody not panicking about Kylington's absense at practice?
Hurt? Possible Sick? Possible. But he's also Calgary's most logical trade chip.
Smith:
Don't like it. Too long for Rittich to be out now as it will push what 2 weeks by Sunday? He should be back in.
Smith has a 4 game point streak and a 3 game win streak but he's had a .895 save percentage in two of the games. Hoping NHL coaching/management staff dig deeper than the final score of the game to pick a starting goalie.

Mike Smith confirmed in net tonight. He’ll start a fifth straight game, which is his longest run of the season. #Flames

1 too many games in a row for Smith. I'd be getting Rittich back in for tonight.

Doesn't matter. He is in his second season in the NHL and spent a full season learning last season learning the NHL game. I am not sure why other teams can give goalies a chance and run with them but not the Flames with a 26 year old goalie?
My sincere apologies. I should have used "duration of employment".

I totally agree. I thought that Rittich should have started on Wednesday, and it makes me more anxious with every game he misses.

Really? You are just assuming what people are thinking. It's okay, you will learn not to assume things
No one has an issue with the way Smith is playing. What I have an issue with is that I would rather play two goalies who are both playing well. What happens if Smith does go back to playing really bad? Or gets injured in the playoffs. Would you not rather have 2 strong goalies going into the playoffs?
