Default Cheap land lines

My wife will be running a day home and wants a landline number for he business. Any recommendations? I don't want to pay 30 bucks for a traditional line that will be used very sparingly.

Do you currently subscribe to internet/tv with telus or shaw? If so you can speak with them and get a discounted rate. $10/$15 a month.

Ooma for sure. Why contract yourself to one of the big companies when this is perfectly good for what you need.
You can also have 2 different numbers with different rings, transfer existing number if you have one now. AND its cheap.
Sound is perfect, never had an issue in the 6 years Ive owned this system.

I have internet and cable with Telus, called last year to cancel my landline, and they offered me $5/month for a year, down from $10/month.

You know your drugs are kicking in when you read a thread title and it says Cheap land mines. Now that would have been an interesting read.

I've had MagicJack for about five years. Super cheap and works flawlessly. Been super happy with it. https://www.magicjack.com/index.html

We even have a 403 number.

I’m curious... I don’t know anyone with landlines anymore. What is the reasoning?

Main reasons I keep mine:
- easy call to 911. Especially with kids in the house
- that's the "junk" number I give out along with my hotmail address.
- Cell phone is on "do not disturb" overnight. Family/ hospital can call the landline if its an emergency

^ if your family is in your contact list, on an ip[hone you can set it up to allow calls from your contact list

i had my wife on board to cancel our land line, and when i called shaw to do it, they told me they could lower the price to $10/per month.

i normally give out my cell number now, and if i dont recognize the number, then i dont answer it.

if i did not have a land line; how would i know when my computer is emitting a virus across the interwebz? as the microsoft support team only appear to have my land line number as they never call me on my cell

Yeah, fair question. I use my landline zero times per year and never give the number out. My kids use it quite a bit, though. They only get 100 minutes/month on their cell phones, so if they're gaming or chatting for a long time, they use the landline. It's only a few bucks a month with Magic Jack, so it's pretty cheap.

We have this rogers wireless home phone thing that has a little router, that connects through the cell phone network and not a cable from the wall. But you can use any type of home phone with it and it obviously has its own number. The benefit is that you can take this little router and your home phone with you when you travel, we took it camping and just plugged in the router so we had an emergency line available for the kids.

https://www.rogers.com/consumer/wire...ess-home-phone

We paid $10 originally for like the first 6 months, but pay $20 now, I am sure I could call and get that reduced. But even for $20 a month, it is worth it. Our kids don't have cell phones so having this as an option is huge for emergencies and great for long distance calls if you don't have a good plan on your phone.

This - especially if someone is babysitting the kid, it's easier for emergency services to find the house than the poor, easily flustered, grandparents remembering our address/finding a cheat sheet somewhere.

Ours is also connected to our alarm system, and rightly or wrongly I trust the landline being connected to that than to a cell tower.
