Default Quick camera lens question

I have a camera lens I bought thinking it might fit in my camera (it was a good deal, so I grabbed it) It doesn't fit. Now how do I figure out what camera it goes with, and how much should I put it on Kijiji for? It says on it: JC Penny Multi-coated Optics 55mm1:4.5f=80-200 mm No. 809663. I think it's for an SLR because I don't see any "electronic-y" connections
at the connecting end. The cap on the connector end says "MIN". Does that mean Minolta cameras

Any help would be appreciated.

Definitely an SLR lens...likely the re-branded Vivitar lens of the same specs. Could be a Minolta mount, but without a picture, it is hard to say. Try selling it for what you paid, but you will need to know the mount.

You might be able to buy an adapter ring that will allow you to mount it on your camera. I'd look into that before you explore selling it as they are generally not expensive to buy.

Even a SLR to DSLR camera? That would be cool.

If the rear cap says MIN then it's for Minolta. Use this guide to find out exactly which mount it is.

What camera do you have?

Unfortunatle all the individual brands of SLR manufacturers do not make universal lenses. It's lame. Makes sense from their perspective though, as people often spend far more on lenses than on cameras so they want to keep customers buying their stuff. Also when people switch lenses, they aren't going to buy all new lenses, so it encourages people to stay with one brand of camera body.

Third parties do make lenses, which is what this probably is. It will be designed to fit one of the major brands of SLR camera bodies: Nikon, Sony, Canon, Minolta, etc...

I just have the Canon Rebel.
It looks like the Minolta MF 35 mm one.
