Default The Forever Tranmere Rovers FC Thread - CP's Official Little Club

As promised here is the Official little team of CP. Something fun to do, to follow lower league football that is spread across England.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tranmere_Rovers

They are in League One (which is the English 3rd Division if you count the EPL as the 1st) They finished 19th out of 24 teams last season barely avoiding relegation on the last day.

These are their first 2 matches.
7 Aug vs. Oldham Athletic, League One
9 Aug vs. Walsall, Football League Cup

The League Cup is a knockout competition between the 92 clubs in the English Football League (first 4 divisions). Wallsall is also in League One so it should be an even match.

Current squad only has 15 players!
http://www.tranmererovers.co.uk/page...,10365,00.html

I think if you went to play for Tranmere you might make the team they're THAT bad!

3DFAaron Cresswell
5DFIan Goodison
6MFPaul McLaren
8DFMarlon Broomes
9FWIan Thomas-Moore (Captain)
10MFAlan Mahon
11MFJohn Welsh
12MFAsh Taylor
13GKJoe Collister
14FWTerry Gornell
20MFRyan Fraughan
22GKAndy Coughlin
--MFJoss Labadie
--MFJack Mackreth
--DFTimothy Cathalina

A guy from Netherlands Antilles! Awesome.
The cult hero is Ian Goodison, over 100 caps for Jamaica.

That's what I want MY Defender to look like!

The Giant Killers

And the fight for survival.

This thread is open to any other lower league or non-league discussion. i'll try my best to find silly and interesting stories from small teams!

Awesome Girly!

Tranmere are the first professional team I ever saw. I was a season ticket holder for many years before moving to Canada (along with Liverpool). Tranmere would play on a Friday night giving me the chance to see Liverpool on the Saturday.

So many memories with this team in the shadows on the Merseyside giants.

They sucked last season, sure, but they only just missed out on a playoff spot the season before that. Sacking Ronnie Moore and bringing in John Barnes was a diabolical mistake.

Every ball's a white ball!!!!!!!!!

Man, a team small enough that not every player has a Wikipedia biography?

Sorry mate, the best Wednesday can finish is second as the Addicks will being crowned champions on 7 May!

The Addicks play Tranmere away on 18 September and host them at the Valley on 5 March, I'll be sure to take lots of pics!

some goofy league2 news

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/foot...ty/8813534.stm

Quote:
The 25-year-old pleaded guilty to all charges against him but could be released after six weeks.
Bradford manager Peter Taylor was unaware until the player's agent rang him on Friday morning and told him Speight was appearing in court.
Taylor told the Telegraph & Argus: "I'm very disappointed because we were totally unaware this was happening."
"This incident happened in February and Jake and his agent never told anyone that it would go any further.
"That's why I didn't know and Mansfield Town didn't know."
That's just nuts, shouldn't the transaction be void? You can't sell a guy and hide the fact he's going to jail. And yes it's that Peter Taylor, former England manager.

What the heck are Bradford City and Peter Taylor doing in League 2?
Bradford City were in the Premier League in 2001! They're been relegated 3 times since then! Sucks.

I love following Tranmere, this is going to be AWESOME!

We should get a hundred people in here and then email the Rovers and tell them Calgary is cheering them on!

Well you better watch out then or we'll bite your ankles.

Funnily enough such is my love of Tranny that I named my dog, Prenton, after the ground that they play at. We sent Tranmere a photo of him with a Tranny scarf on and they put it in the match programme under "Canine supporter from Canada!" Awesome! Little teams like THE Rovers are great

The Super Whites are big on the 'Youth Movement,' Joe Collister is someone I'll be keeping an eye on this season.

Quote:
The young keeper, about to enter his second season as a professional, says he can already see improvements from the new coach's methods.

"Working with Dave has been really good so far. He's working us hard and I'm enjoying it. His style is quite like John Achterberg's was. I feel a lot fitter and sharper and I'm really feeling the benefit already.
http://www.tranmererovers.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10365~2092747,00.html

Joe, from Hoylake, Wirral, has been with the Club since the age of 15 and signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2009.

The 17-year old played the full 90 minutes of Tranmere's home pre-season friendly against Preston North End on Saturday, making a number of fine saves including a late penalty save.

This kid is like the same age as the kids I coach, but hes playing professional already!

Watch out Robert Green, this kid is after your England job!

Yup! It'll be fun to follow the young players. Unfortunately unless Tranmere achieves more success, a bigger team will be after him soon.

Developing players and then selling them off is a trait in the lower-leagues.

Seems this trend of supporting a lower league side is catching on, Mike Tyson has gotten in the mix.

That basterd is stealing our bit!

I've got Tranmere news coming to me daily now (as if there will be daily updates), I'm all set up. Toying with the idea of E-Baying a jersey. Thatd be awesome to have! "Who's jersey is that?" Tranmere Rovers. "Who?" Exactly.

Yeah, they'll develop players and sell them, but I think that part will be interesting too, following a player that used to play for the Rovers when he gets his big break suiting up for the Mighty Liverpool Reds!

Looking forward to it, now Ive just got to find a way to watch the occasional game.
