If you're not feeling optimistic about season 2 by episode 3 or 4, I would say drop it. It only gets more convoluted.
Season 3 is basically season 1 - light. Has all the appealing elements of season 1, but it didn't blow me away like the first season. I liked it a lot.
This could be a conundrum, though. I didn't need season 2 to appreciate season 3, but would I have appreciated season 3 to the extent I did if not for viewing the entire disappointment of season 2? Probably, but who knows.
If I could go back and choose, I would still opt for not suffering through season 2, although Rachel McAdams' performance was a highlight.

I just finished watching all 7 seasons of 'Rescue Me' which I had been working on for the past 3, 4 months. While it's definitely a very dark comedy, it had some brilliant moments and I think it depicted what it was like post 9-11 for many NYC firefighters. I would recommend it.

I think it's time to watch Band of Brothers again I'm not quite at 20 viewings but I've seen it a few times.
I recall watching the episode "Bastogne" in the middle of summer when it was 30 degrees outside and still feeling chilled because the soldiers were freezing in the winter months during battle.

Noticed something interesting watching Band of Brothers. In the first episode with giant POS Sobel, there’s a scene where a new recruit shows up and wants to join the 101st. Sobel tells him he has to make it up and back Curahee in 15 mins.
Later in the episode it’s mentioned that Curahee is 3 miles up, 3 miles down. That’s 6 miles in 15 mins, or 2.5 mins per mile, which is obviously impossible.
Talk about setting a guy up to fail.

Say what you want about Sobel, he had those men ready for war. Not much of a field commander but many officers of Easy Company credit him with their later success, including Dick Winters.

The moment I saw David Schwimmer as a drill sergeant, I thought "How is this show going to be any good? Ross is not an army type guy." The show was good and I hated Sobel. I later realized, that's what made the character so good. A guy who is typecast as a bit of an incompetent moron character, and he is now playing a character who has to resort to being an absolute jerk to get his charges to follow him. He is hated because he is a jerk and not very competent. Perfect casting in that part for the series. He wasn't supposed to be a great military leader, he was supposed to be the hated incompetent jerk. Schwimmer nailed that role.

Searched and didn't see it mentioned, but we discovered The Shield on Prime. Ran at the same time as the Wire and is similar, but based in LA. I think I'm liking it more than The Wire.

I tried like four times to get into the Shield but I just found it so corny. I don't see why people compare it with The Wire at all.

I watched that too. I found it pretty decent, but started to get a bit tedious by the end. But certainly has some powerful and funny moments throughout.

Yeah, it got pretty repetitive when they kept showing the same scenarios over and over (especially with Dennis Leary and the cousin's ex wife, how many times can they have an affair/break up/do it again??). However the poignant moments were pretty raw. Plus, I friggen loved Lou.
