This is a bit of a trap game IMO as if the Flames take the Canucks lightly and play sloppy this is a game they could easily lose. Flames need to tighten things up a little defensively against their top line and be prepared to outwork them.

The no goods did outplay the canucks most of the game. Flames should win this no problem if they come out with full force. Don't play down to the opponent.

alright to summarize:

Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
Lots of stuff to update from #Flames morning skate:

- Rittich starts
- Neal didn’t skate (maintenance) will play on second line with Tkachuk and Backlund
- Dube is back and is in
- Mangiapane skated but won’t play (still on IR)
- Frolik is out (healthy)

Canucks have played well lately, so this won't be an easy game.

Flames are now one of those teams that opponents circle on their calendars as a measuring stick game, and the Nucks will likely be amped up for this one. The boys will have to be ready right out of the gate tonight.

I think what James Neal needs is a CP Neal Jersey Group Buy.

Yea, this is a weird decision. The guy just came back from a lengthy injury and no doubt needs a few games to get back into the groove. What good does it possibly do to sit him?

Granted, I didn't see the last game. Did he play poorly against the Jets?

Well I guess I am hoping for the following.

Gaudreau Monahan Lindholm
Tkachuk Backlund Neal
Bennett Dube Czarnik
Hathaway Jankowski Ryan

I'd be interested to review every Frolik goal this year. I seem to recall a lot of open nets and easy tap ins.

No moreso than anyone else IMO. Collectively the team wasn't great defensively, but Frolik didnt stand out that way.

It seems like there has been a disconnect between the two from the get-go.

Frolik has been himself. I'm not totally convinced that Peters really knows how to use him (or Backlund, for that matter). It's my one quibble with him.

There’s a grey area between healthy and not healthy, and especially between game shape and out of game shape. Frolic right now isn’t in true mid season form

So...

Tkachuk - Backlund - Neal
Bennett - Jankowski - Czarnik
Dube - Ryan - Hathaway

is my guess. What I would like to see on PP2:

Bennett
Czarnik - Backlund - Neal
Hanifin/Andersson

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Coach Peters says he’s shuffling the deck tonight.

“Our group has gone stale a little bit. We haven’t liked our starts, we haven’t liked the energy we’ve played with. We’re trying to get a little energy back into our room.”

Bit of a guessing game on lines tonight. #Flames

It seems so strange to me that the coaching staff hasn’t even once tried Neal on the powerplay in his one-timer position on the right side. He’s always the high-screen/high-slot shot position.
