Keep in mind that any fan discussion of a Toronto player has to take a full lines value out, in order for it to make sense for the rest of the league. Hyman-Matthews-Nylander arn't line zero megastars, they are just a good first line.

It's sort of like how every wrestler in the WWE is immediately a Superstar.

Andreas Johnsson is a good third liner getting paid $3.4M a season. If he and Milan Lucic were both being paid $1M per season, their values would be similar. Due to the salaries involved, this was a more even trade than it looks on the surface. Good for New Jersey weaponizing their cap situation.

AJ had a 20 goal 43 point season the season before last and only played 73 games.

Last season he had 8 goals and 21 points but only in 43 games because of injury.

Also those points mostly came at even strength.

Lucic is just horrible and I don't understand the comparison.

He's put up 20 points the last two season and a huge percentage of those points is from PP time.

I was picking a third line player. Jake Virtanen at $1M or Andre Burakovsky at $1M have the same value as Andreas Johanson at $1M. There's just a tendency to have permanent rose colored glasses for Toronto players in particular.

Due to the cap space involved, New Jersey paid an even price. There was no steal.
