pace of play is generally pretty good in the morning. Longest round so far this season was 3 hours 50 minutes, which is pretty solid. Fastest round as a foursome was 2:53. One of the faster rounds I've ever played with 4.

I got around on an empty course in 1 hour 45 minutes as a twosome a few years ago (in a cart). Rainy day and no one else on the course.

had many 5hr plus rounds this year in the city and in Kananaskis. Covid rules were amazing to start! I was flying with the groups spaced out.

Blue devil was almost 6 hours. I complained to the marshals and called the course manager after. He argued with me, then checked the GPS, then gave me rainchecks. It's just greed to squeeze in so many groups and say it's okay because no one complains.

Also what’s with groundskeepers going from 1-18? Which results in basically having a mower with you all round. They used to go 18–1 when I was younger.

That’s the absolute worst. I find it extremely distracting. There were mowers in Drumheller that would be mowing the middle of the fairway when you were at the tee box. They just wouldn’t stop so you just shot. When you reached your approach shot they turn off the blades but keep the engine running.

Forget what you watch on TV, we are not pros and we don't have to play in turn. Go to your ball and be ready to hit or putt. The worse slow players are people who think they are PGA material and play at PGA pace.

My course (Nanton) goes the direction you want. They also start at dawn to get as much mowing as they can in before golfers hit the course.

To me it is easy, always be ready to hit. When you are walking up to your ball be decisive about what club and your shot. Carry an extra ball and a couple of tees in your pocket, so if you hit a wayward tee shot, you are ready to go quickly. Don’t spend a ton of time looking for your last ball. Do you really need to do the tiger vision on the green or the Spider-Man?

Off the top of my head.
Limit your time for looking for a lost ball to 3 minutes at most. Others helping does help as it decreases the time looking. Someone usually sees where the others ball lands and has a good idea where it is.

Nothing irritates me more than seeing an entire group look for a ball. All 4 don’t need to be looking though the weeds. At least 1 player should be continuing to move.

I buy my grips off Amazon and get the Golf Pride tour velvets for around $7.00

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Brampton HF 100 is the best grip tape solvent and it doesn't have a strong odor
and it's non toxic

https://www.amazon.ca/Brampton-HF100...15&sr=8-2&th=1

This brand of tape is good

If you have a vise grip, put this over your shaft and tighten, but not too much

My issue is they spend too much time looking. It's like they are married to their golf balls.

Anytime more than 2 people are looking for a ball you’re doing it wrong.

My bad, I should have said a limit of 2 looking. The person who lost the ball and the other who watched his or her hit their shot or drive.

Thanks for asking. My clubs are so old (about 15 years on average) I had to go to the garage for a look.

Driver - Cleveland Launcher 9.5 degrees, stiff shaft (remember their old gold shafts, it’s over 15 years old)
3 wood - Mizuno, stiff shaft
Taylor Made Rescue hybrid - 19 degrees, stiff shaft (over 15 years old)
Irons - Mizuno MP33 blades
Wedges - Cleveland (various vintages)
Putter - Scotty C Futura Phantom mallet (made 2005-2007)

My clubs on the coast are pretty close to duplicates except the driver is 10 degrees, the three wood is Titleist and the irons are MP32s (they play pretty much the same as the 33s)

Like I said, other than regular grip changes and replacing wedges as they wear, I don’t change clubs often.

And those Scotty C Futura Phantoms (with fat grips) are gems. You don’t them see much at all these days.

Oh, and I really don’t understand all this new adjustable technology. Unless a golfer wants to groove a defective swing, I guess.

How about you?

Let’s talk about balls.

I want to hear opinions on prov1 vs Taylor made TP5 vs Bridgestone vs Kirkland etc.

I can’t kick my Prov1 habit. They just feel amazing....when I hit my irons pure there is no better sound and feeling and ball flight than pasting a 5 iron dead straight into outer space.

Played Bridgestone but don’t get the same feel. Same with the Kirkland knock offs. TP5 is a great ball but when I hit a pure Prov it’s still different than a pure TP5....no idea why.

All in my head or what?

As a mid handicapper is there really a difference?

I find I just need to stick to the same thing. Currently been playing Bridgestone the last while.

The Kirkland balls are trash. Every time I hit one it feels awful

I’m with you on this. I never buy Pro V’s because I’m cheap and they’re just rentals for me anyway. But I did load up on Bridgestones this year because they were a good deal, and were supposed to be good for me (less spin). As a guy who battles a slice, that reduced spin is supposed to be helpful. Well...I lost most of those and started dipping into the Pro V’s I’ve found. Honestly, they’re just great. I’m still too cheap to buy them, but you can totally tell the difference!

I like srixon z-stars. Or Pro-Vs. On reasonably receptive greens they’ll talk to you.

The OG 4 pc Kirklands were awesome. The 3pc not so much.

I keep coming back to the Titleist AVX. I hit them farther than any tour ball I've tried.

TP5X is amazing in the wind for me.
