I think it depends on the type of movie you are going to. A horror film where the crowd is engaged can really enhance the experience for me. I went to see The Grudge (it was a turd of a movie) but it was with a great crowd so I ended up having a good time. Also superhero movies have to be seen the first time in a theatre, a film like Aquaman benefited from IMAX.

I think a film like Aquaman benefited mostly from Legal Marijuana.

That's why I got my own at home. It's paid for itself over and over, and I get the bonus of life size Mario, and big screen hockey. Having beer with the movie is just a bonus. So are bathroom breaks.

I'v got a 55'' TV right now. I've been trying to convince my partner for some time that we need a 70-80'' 4K TV. It's not going well.

See, you messed up. You need, like, a 42". That goes upstairs. It's small enough that it sucks for movies. That's when the up sell comes in, and you keep the 42" for them to watch the shows you don't want to. This way, you get a giant screen for both of you in the basement, and they can still watch lame shows on their own.

Wasn't the budget for the film $200 Million?

This is pandemic numbers. It's basically a two horse race between this and Tenet.

Yeah, Box Office totals didnt really mean anything before and they mean even less now.
I've never relied on 'Earnings' to determine whether a movie is good or not, now its a complete shell-game.
Studios are going to start claiming apocalyptic losses and nobody is going to be able to tell if its because a movie flopped or if its a grift.
They were pretty shady with their budgetary proclamations before, never factoring in promotion and advertising, etc. Now they can just say whatever they want. How do they know that people bought HBO for Wonder Woman 1984 and not for Chernobyl?

Been a while since anyone posted in this thread. With The Batman 2 weeks out, what's everyone's sense for the hype for this movie? Any opening weekend predictions? For me Homecoming did $117 mill opening weekend so this should be something similar.

Depends on the reviews IMO. The movie is going to make a lot of money opening weekend regardless but if word gets out early that it's a dud (not saying it will be a dud but DC films are more spotty than Marvel) it may keep it below Homecoming's numbers.

I dont know if any movie is going to really touch Homecoming's numbers.
Its certainly possible, I think some of that might be just the outward breath where restrictions are getting lifted and people who love going to the theaters just want to go.
So it could happen.

Looking at the numbers for Batman Begins, it's amazing the film even got a sequel. Budget of $150 mill and total world wide box office of $358 mill. I'm sure some of that was still hesitation from fans after Batman and Robin, but Im glad WB had faith in the character and in Nolan.

That was actually a pretty good gross for a comic book movie pre-MCU.

I don't necessarily think that's true. Batman 89 did over $400 mill, the first Spider-man which came out a couple years before made over $800 mill.

That 3 hour run time is gonna hurt the box office. Not only in terms of showings but also in terms of people willing to go see it. Also Spidey movies are kid safe. Batman is not.
I bet this movie is much closer to something like Logan.
