I thought the music died on the last day of Woodstock 1999..

This year has been terrible for new music. I've been so very disappointed with almost everything so far outside of a handfull of albums.

Have you heard "everything"? Maybe in a specific genre.

I submit that there is more great music being made then ever before, but now we have to look for it.

You could spend your entire life just sampling the music released in 2012. It is overwhelming.

Totally disagree. This has been one of the best years for music in a long time, in my opinion.

There is never enough time to devote as you would like. I can generally listen to music at work while working on documents, driving, skiing, working out, and in the evenings and weekends. I tend to listen mostly to music from the current year.

Let's say there are 14,000 songs in my iPod. If each song is 3 minutes on average, is that 700 hours of music? Not too much. If you did not sleep for 29 days, you could hear every song once!

I buy about 40 new CDs a year, and listen to them at least 10 times each. I listen to a lot of internet radio, and see live music as much as possible.

I was like that, but now I just have Gangam Style on repeat everywhere I go.

Actually. I really like Electric Guest - Mondo. Under the Gun is a fantastic song.

Im not sure if its been mentioned yet, but someone Ive found this year and been listening to a bunch is Macklemore. I believe his new album came out last month and he has a couple great songs from the last year or two that are awesome.

Great production behind his rapping by Ryan Lewis and usually the songs have pretty meaningful lyrics as well, though he does mix in some upbeat party songs.

A song about his drug addiction:

Thrift Shop:

His new single

I have been relying on KEXP, NME Radio, www.wearehunted.com , CBC Radio 3, and Songza app where I try to listen to the blogged 50 list weekly while I work. I have always favored indie music but this year I tuned out to some degree. 2012 : Beach House, Youth Lagoon, Cloud Nothings, Dry the River, The Maccabees, Doomtree, Shearwater, First Aid Kit, Mystery Jets, Alt-J, Chromatics, Ellie Goulding, Freelance Whales, How to dress well, The Weeknd, Ben Howard. Lots of fools gold this year. I still listen to Chromatics and Alt-J all the time but the rest are fading fast. Looking forward to 2013!

Someone mentioned doom soul diva Cold Specks. Check out the podcast on KEXP from October 5, 2012. Not bad. Likely the KEXP podcast of the year is Alt-J live from November 16, 2012. They are Foster the People version 2012 which will abandoned in 2013 but for now sound great. All in all I am not even going to bother making a list and was going to buy an album today based on some lists out there but I can't even decide what to get. Anyone? What is the must hear album of 2012? I have heard Grimes so excluding her....

Hell yeah! Macklemore is awesome. Dude has been pretty big in the Pacific Northwest for a while, really awesome to see him totally blow up this year. Thrift Shop is an awesome jam. The whole album is fantastic.

I will list my favorites in December in the Best of 2012 thread. I think there are at least 20 records I really liked.
