That day has come and gone. Why not make this thread embed free so that it is easier to sort through? Minimalist? My links are ugly but they still play

2012 has been pretty disappointing overall so far. There have been a few good releases, but not a lot that makes me want to listen over and over again.

P4K gave Beach House a 9.1 today, wouldn't be surprised if it was at least in their year end top 3.

Why people can't understand different people have different tastes in music... why does it always have to be a dilemma between what 'real music' is or that all mainstream music is crap. It seems that people who do this are thinking they are bettering themselves by listening to that REAL music.

The mainstream public are craving real music. Thats what took Adelle mainstream. If you were to come in here and tell me to check out Chris Young or Kellie Pickler because they both just put out outstanding albums I would at least check into it. Just because you haven't heard of something doesn't make it crap and just because some people explore bands that some may not have heard of doesn't mean they are serving some self need to better themselves. There is just nothing better than a really good album no matter what genre.

Point where I said this? And you just referred Adele as 'real' music... whereas many people probably don't like her music and prefer Justin Bieber? Why does so many people love Justin Bieber? Why does so many people love Dubstep but many people refer as 'robots having sex'? There's a difference between sharing your musical interest with other people than implying that people are listening to 'crap' in this generation. I just have a itch every time someone refers their music interest as 'real' music..

And if you're wondering what kind of music I listen to... I listen to pretty much every genre except country. Should I refer country not as 'real' music??

I'll listen to just about anything, but there hasn't really been much that has actually been very good, mainstream or not.

Speaking of Adele, that song Rolling in the Deep is something else. Very fresh. The background vocals kill.

It always surprises me at least once a day but I am always finding new and obscure music on Voices in the Morning 88.1 FM (and sometimes in the 4-6PM after work timeslots too). That station kills every single college/university radio station for just playing whatever they want and with incredibly good taste and variety. It's not always great but somedays it's like internet radio on terrestrial Calgary radio. No commercials at all either since it's paid by aboriginal funding.

They don't tell you the songs or artists or have a website with playlists either so it's hard as hell to figure out what the songs are. Even the best song ID apps for Android/iPhone have failed me many times with just how obscure and awesome some of the songs they've played on 88.1 have been with the apps failing to figure out most of them.

The other day they were playing this as I chilled out on my drive home. Calgary artist, who knew?

I really like what I've heard from the upcoming dirty projectors and Edward Sharpe ... albums.

If anyone is interested in a couple newer bands that put out some good music for KEXP check out Daughter & Polica on the I-Tunes popcasts. Also just listening to Mystery Jets "Radlands" and it is pretty good. Still though nothing ear shattering

Along the lines of some of the above posts.....what are some great country albums this year? Pop? R&B etc.

A lot of mainstream music I look at as fast food. Do I sometimes consume it? Yes. Can it be enjoyable? Yes. Do I think it is as good and has great depth and artistic merit?. No. But

Who is the mainstream artist that gets to you? For me the last year or two Adelle or Katy Perry. The best scenerio is some of the electro remixes their songs. Makes the flavor of the gum last longer....
