Default Onkyo receivers, thoughts?

I went to Visions yesterday and ended up buying a Onkyo Receiver, I needed a new receiver and the sales guy talked up this brand... I can get a little caught up in the moment sometimes, so now a day later I am wondering if any one has had good/bad experiences with this brand and the general onion of the products they produce. To be honest I had not heard good or bad about them really...

I think they're great, I've got an 875. The feature and quality for the price is great, or it was a few years ago when I got mine.

Good receivers, the only thing is that they tend to run pretty hot. I'm not sure if this applies to their newer models because last I did research on them was about 2 years ago. I think though in general Onkyo's are known to run hotter than other brands so just make sure it's in a well ventilated area.

Ya I think I'm good for ventilation, I'll keep an eye on the heat though for curiosities sake if nothing else...

Well at least 15 people didn't jump on here saying "omg you bought that junk!" so I feel better, I usually research more but time was a factor and I had none. I Wanted the sale price.

Onkyo are an amazing deal for the money. I got a refurb (like new) Onkyo HTIB for under $200 and it's fantastic.

I'm also running an Onkyo receiver and love it. No problems, other than RARELY (less than once a year) it overheats and the sound drops out; the fix is easy - turn it off for a minute and then turn it back on.

Great allotment of features for the price (especially stateside :P).

What model number is it?

At a certain price point, i think that all manufacturers tend to deliver a pretty good product.

i am actively looking to buy a receiver right now, and the best that i have been able to do is make a list of the features that i want/need and eliminate models, regardless of manufacturers.

Generally I've found Onkyo have a better list of features at a given price point than their competition, at least at the level I was looking at (Pioneer Elite etc), though at the time there was a new line of Pioneer Elites that would have been comparable, but I couldn't wait the few months before they were expected to come out.

They had good prices when I was looking.

My model number is TX-SR608...

I streamed the Grey Cup today off my brothers laptop via his HDMI out to my 46 Sony (KDL-46Z4100) using the Onkyo receiver, it upconverted the image nicely... was almost impossible to tell was not watching it on Satellite... it kind of... blur isn't the right word, softens the image when upconverting... does it to my Wii as well but not in a bad way but you can tell its being upconverted if you look for it but otherwise provided a great picture and decent sound for an Internet stream.

The one HDMI out to my TV no matter the source is sure nice. Coax, component, RCA etc... all come out of the single HDMI out on the receiver to my TV.

Ive got an Onkyo receiver and in another room, a cheapish Onkyo HTIB. Both are good products and good value for the price compared to Pioneer etc.

From my reading the SR608 is considered a good receiver that compares to the Pioneer 1020?. It's also 3D ready.
