Default Nikon d90 vs Canon Rebel T2i which is a better camera?

Thought I would ask the photo buffs in here. What are your thoughts on these 2 cameras?

I can get either the D90 with 15-105vr kit lens, with case and Hoya 67mm uv filter for around $750 or

I can get the Rebel T2i for the same price with some extras as per the ad here.

I am looking at taking pictures of family (kids playing sports) I don't care about teh full HD aspect of the T2i as I feel 720 is enough.

Opinions are appreciated

Can't go wrong with either, I like Canon better and if you buy the T2i you are helping a fellow CPer out. I have the T1i and I love it!

Do I not get a better lens with the Nikon 18-105mm VR then the Canon 18-55 IS lens?

As a D90 user, I'm biased. I've never used the 18-105, though I've heard good things (for a kit lens).

However, the T2i is a good camera.
Here are some links to compare.

Coke vs. Pepsi, Xbox vs. PS3, Cats vs. Dogs.

Everyone has their own preference, but both are great. Your best bet is to go out and actually pick each one up to get a feel for it. Maybe you prefer the button layout of one over the other. They really are that close.

If you care about video, T2i. It's not the 720p that'll kill you, it's the rolling shutter. T2i has it too, but from what I read it isn't as bad.

18-105 gives you a nice range upgrade over 18-55, but if you're going to add a 70-300 or something it's really kind of redundant.

I'd suggest going to a store and trying 'em out. Size and handling is important, especially if you're shooting long sessions. And smaller isn't always better... I actually wish my D90 was bigger.

I'd go with the T2i. With all the extras being tossed in on that deal, it's pretty tough to beat especially if his price is negotiable.

That said, they're both excellent cameras. These days if you go with either Nikon or Canon dSLRs you really can't go wrong. There's only personal preference. If you haven't shot too much with either system you probably don't have too much of a preference and will adapt to whichever brand your first camera is.

Get the battery grip. Feels perfect in my larger hands.

I purchased a Canon T2i just over 3 months ago and love it. I really don't think you can go wrong with either. I looked at both and they're both really nice cameras. I chose the T2i because it felt good in my hands.

That's a good deal being offered on the T2i btw!

More importantly is learning how to use it so you can get the most out of it. I'm still very much in learning mode.

Does it make any difference when shooting landscape?

For me, definitely. But I even prefer the grip on the 7D and 5D mkII.

Picked up a full kit Nikon D3100 (new version) for $550. Better bang for the buck.

After looking at Regulator's pics I would buy whatever he has!

When I bought my D5000 I did try the Canons and just prefered the feel of the Nikon. I did upgrade to the 18-105 lens and use it 90% of the time. I find the kit 55-200 not that great.
