Default Blackberry Bold 9000 - Can't upgrade to OS 5

Has anybody had the problem of trying to upgrade to the OS 5.0 but can't because it says you don't have enough memory on the Blackberry?

I've read some online forums that Blackberry has and can't find an answer.

http://supportforums.blackberry.com/...ace/m-p/640639

I tried calling but then realized they charge for their Tech Support which honestly is absolutely ridiculous. I had no idea Blackberry was so brutal with their Customer Support.

Anyways, any help would be appreciated. I didn't put this in the Blackberry specific thread because it seems to be talking more about new products than anything.

Do yourself a favor and don't upgrade. It kills your battery life pretty bad. I talked to Rogers who helped me revert mine and he said it was a pretty universal problem.

If you still want to try it out, call your provider and they will (try to) help you work out any problems. My suggestions are checking your available application memory.

I'm running OS5, my battery life isn't what it used to be that's for sure. I'm constantly checking to make sure I don't have programs running in the background that I'm not using. I also keep it charging in the car during long trips now just in case.

All in all I do like OS5, but my biggest beef is that with the additional space I have a lot less room for applications.

I wish I could put applications on the SD card, but you can't

This is one of the craptacular things about the Blackberry that drives me insane and makes me wonder why ANYONE bothers with them.

The installer knows there isn't enough space. BB Desktop knows what apps are installed on the device. Is it FREAKING ROCKET SCIENCE that the installer couldn't back up the apps, remove them to make the neccessary space, do the upgrade, and put the apps back on?

Why do I have to sit there manually inspecting a list of apps on the BB and deciding which ones to delete to free up enough space to do an upgrade?

It's like it's 1991 and 3.5" floppy disks all over again.

Sheesh

I always preferred to do a fresh wipe of the device when upgrading the OS. Don't have to worry about any remnants of the old OS, old data, old logs, etc.

I had the bold 9000, then upgraded to 9700. thats something i would definitely recommend if its an option to you, 9700 has great battery life, comes with os 5.0, and just overall a smoother phone to operate. Then again i had alot of issues with my bold 9000

The trackpad vs trackball is definitely a huge improvement, as is the extra memory to store more apps. Other than that, for size and screen the 9000 is better. OS makes all the difference, as some of the early ones were crap.
