He'll never get them. For as dazzling a player as McHobo is, the trade off is that he is extremely difficult to play with. No one can keep up with him, and he plays selfishly. This is why the Oilers have cycled so many players through his wings.

The greats don’t need them. They create them themselves.

Is this forward group better than last year? Maybe a little, if Turris and Puljujarvi have good years (good luck with that).
Is their defense better? They are replacing Klefbom (their best Dman in their own zone) with Barrie, who is terrible defensively, but a PP specialist. Well they already had an historically good PP last year, so I will bet that, even with Barrie, it doesn't do as well this year.
In net - a major problem last year - they come back with the some duo, except Smith is now 38 years old.
This team is not better than last year. And last year, Draisaitl had a career year.

And he, Draisaitl, Neal and RNH take up so much forward salary the only way they will have one is to draft one (hah) or hope a guy like AA blossoms (nope).

What if McTittie and Raitittle have 90-100 point seasons.
They keep assuming guys will produce at the highest level while new additions will automatically outplay the guys they're replacing. It's all very much in question. And if the hart bros play a little more ordinary because they're growing sick of the team's crap, then the team's depth will be needed to produce a lot more than they did last year, as well as historic PP continuing to be historic JUST to stay on the same trajectory.

They probably will. They'll still miss the play-offs.

Andreas Athanasiou? They didn't sign him and they're sure not going to with $732000 in cap space.

I know. But he’s an example of a guy who they thought would pop for a cheap price, and he just didn’t.

They wont because while I dont think the Oilers Special Teams can maintain the clip they set last season, I also dont think their powerplay success was a fluke.
That will win them some games.
But once again they are a one-trick pony. Win it on the Powerplay or dont win at all.

They only both have seasons like that if Draisaitl plays with McDavid at least 75% of the time. Which means those points are on mostly the same goals.

i'm still waiting on all the free agents who are going to play in Edmonton for league minimum just for the opportunity to play with the greatest leader in the game, McHobo.

I heard they’re thinking about giving out two Hart trophies next year but I’ll need to get Burke to check with the league on that.

If it wasn't Stauffer, I'd assume someone put that up mocking the Oilers. But I'm sure he genuinely thinks that lineup is something more than waiver-wire trash.

3rd liner and 4th liner with McDavid.
Second line is decent, I will concede that.
Third and fourth lines are a whole lot of garbage and are borderline NHL quality if JP and Turris play their best.
Neal on the fourth line will absolutely kill them. He only has value paired with talent.
Really funny how that line up post is supposed to be a brag.
Are we supposed to be jealous? Cause I'd rather laugh.

I think his point was opposite: if McD and Drai only hit 90-100 instead of 120+ then the Oilers will really be in trouble. So not only do they have to hope that both of those players have exceptional seasons, but they have to hope that they both hit near their career high again just to potentially make the playoffs. It's a terrible bet.

Not sure they will both eclipse 100 points. Their powerplay numbers aren't sustainable year over year.

Staples is so awful, and frankly stupid. The Journal really should be embarrressed that he writes for them.
How in the frack does Edmonton get a win here at all.
Turris is a cast off and has been trash for at least a couple of years, he's also playing on their third line but is a defensive deficit. JP, they put a lot of hype on a guy who played "well" in the equivalent of a beer league on large ice. Barrie, the last thing they needed was another defensively poor Blueliner that can't be trusted to take regular 5v5 and Smith, he looked done last year, and still got over paid.
The Oilers are a non playoff team that at best treaded water. But I think got worse, taking out Klefbom and replacing him with Barrie is really lopsided on the negative side. A one year deal does nothing for them.
Hollands plan was desperation, nothing more.

They're an 80 point team and that's being generous.
