Hawks 5 Flames 1

- Flames terrible pretty much start to finish
- Sleepy second, collapse in the second
- Hang Markstrom out to dry
- Pelletier moves up line up and plays 15 minutes

Extra thanks for writing this one.

It can't feel great to write about a game like that.

It is disappointing. I thought the TB win might have been a watershed moment for the team.

Hopefully this is a slap in the face and they come out on fire against Seattle. Problem is, you piss away these kinds of games and your margin for error starts to vanish.

I think they’ve dug too big of a hole. They are just going to run out of time.

Markstrom takes a lot of heat. But they play like garbage in front of him almost every game.

I really don't have much to say. They barely squeaked out a win against the 2nd worst team in the league and two days later are complete no-shows against the worst team in the league. Considering they already lost to Columbus and Chicago in previous meetings it's not like the team should have been taking them lightly. It's just not their season. Something wrong with the makeup of the team and the head coach. I'm not sure why they struggle so much every 2nd season but it's a real thing with this organization.

It’s like losing all those games to the Sens two years ago

The hot first line saved them last year. Their new superstar is incapable. Lindholm is really just a passenger

The team is average. The organization on a macro level is average. Tre is average.

You get average results.

When the played Columbus, they had the worst record at the time. So you actually had two consecutive home games against the worst team in the league and were outscored badly in regulation.

People aren't going to want to hear this, but they need to get more boring.

Use their depth to plod through games, don't cheat offensively, hope that shot volume eventually gets it done.

That to me, likely wins 60%+ of their games and gets them in.

The leaning offensively out of a desperate sense that they're not going to score enough is killing them.

Flames came out flat, Outworked by the 'Hawks' lower line guys.

If Blackwell could have had any puck luck, the final score would have been uglier.

Flames' D handled simple give and go zone entries poorly.

Still seems to be no NHL level scouting report on Stauber, and the Flames were content to drill him in the logo.

I'd put it down to being trapped by a "trap" game, and move on.

Ugh. The amount of times I called for a dump in or a shot on goal instead of a pass, I was hoarse by the 3rd.

My friend responded differently. He just became steadily more sarcastic as the game went on.

Nah, you assume they have the goalie to play boring tight game. It’s proven they don’t

Just the opposite IMO. They don’t have the goalie to give up the chances they have been giving up.

Are the chances we give up because we are cheating for offence?

It seems like in zone break downs and neutral zone break downs.

Its just a bit head scratching a Darryl Sutter coach team is so poor defensively and middle of the pack in goals against.

Even if they play boring they’ve shown they lack the discipline to play boring and safe all the time. So maybe they let up like 5-6 high danger chances but half of them are total doozies. So they let in a couple of those but can only score one. Doesn’t lead to winning hockey.

I think the goalies would likely prefer a boring game without 3-4 breakaways for a change.

Goals 3 and 4 last night were on aggressive plays by defenseman.

Zadorov follows Weegar over to Kane. Why? He can see Weegar. Wanted the puck.

Hanifin goes after the puck carrier in the neutral zone with Andersson already caught on a pinch. Why? He wanted the puck.

But the rest isn't true. They're not poor defensively, they're ranked 6th in expected goals against/60, you can't do that with a poor defensive system. It's individual mistakes and average to sub par goaltending.

The whole team lacks skill, speed and emoji except Zadorov and Backs. Weegar is an embarrassment as he should be the leader when Tanev is absent.
