People still think it's a good idea to subsidize hockey players?

Sigh.

God, it's amazing this is still going on. It's literally been over a decade now.

Just build something already.

People think it's a good idea to have a new arena for their favourite hockey team. I know that goes against you enjoying taking a giant dump on everything Flames though.

What if they weren’t someone’s favourite hockey team?

Who cares anymore. Sell the team. Let some other city suffer.

the biggest sign you don't care about something is posting about it on social media

I was being facetious. I want this built as much as anyone. The ring road will actually be completed before a new arena.

At least be accurate - it’s subsidizing the owners not the players

Unless you think Kadri and Hubby should be financing the new arena

Well, I'm pretty sure they started talking about building the ring road and the arena at about the same time, except the arena in question was the Corral.

The original beginning of proposing a new rink was actually from 2007. Although, the initial delay was understandable in stepping back as they purchased the Stampeders and wanted to add a football stadium to the project.

But your point remains, what a long time!

The biggest mistake of that one was going for contaminated land and trying to build on the opposite end of downtown that the City of Calgary was focusing on. You can't do that in a mid size city like Calgary.

They should have gone for Calgary Next, north of the Stampede grounds and focused hard on renderings that would get people on board. That proposal was so half baked that fans could barely cobble together what the arena or stamps field house would look like inside. That's embarrassing.

It was basically, "this is amazing, it will revolutionize Calgary, but we didn't take the time to really show you much, now give us hundreds of millions now!".

People who talk about the arena being about subsidizing millionaires and/or billionaires can shampoo my crotch. We will need a new arena ANYWAY, as the current one is A JOKE. We as taxpayers might as well partner with CSEC, so half is paid for privately. Whether the Flames are here or not, we NEED a new building-the current one IS NOT FINE!!!!!
