Projection was 6.1 so it’s really odd Jays went under by a full million.

Baseball is odd. In the current environment those guys are worth closer to $35 million/season. I get saving money and all, but some of these negotiations on those low salaries for players they'll be at the mercy of in a year (who they also want to build around), comes across as unnecessary. There's probably a good reason but a guy like Bo will walk. He has no ties to Toronto. Vlad will stay because of his familiarity with the city and culturally Dominican high regard for the city should help their cause. Regardless, not sure why nickle and diming them in this situation where they completely hold the cards.

Also, some vids and a scouting report on Bonilla. "Baseball America's 4th best prospect and MLB Pipeline's seventh-best... 'one of the best combinations of hitting ability and power in the class'..." Kid is only 16!!

The Toronto Blue Jays will be in search of a new bullpen coach.
The team announced Sunday that Matt Buschmann has opted to leave the organization to pursue other opportunities.
Toronto also said it will announce its complete coaching staff in the coming weeks.

We've seen this story before. Super prospect - until he's dealt.

Interesting the Jays were one of the finalists for Bogaerts. I guess they would have moved Bo to second.

I’m guessing after their try to extend him last offseason that didn’t work they seem to think he won’t resign there. Not a surprise.

I would imagine Mattingly is connected with some good talent, who would follow him to TO.

But…does that mean we shouldn’t be signing international free agents?
Even if we trade them (like G Moreno and A Martin, who I assume you are referring to) it’s still MLB currency to make deals with.
Or we develop them like Vladdy.
It’s an asset that only costs money and doesn’t cost any player capital or any future.

Oh I’m fully onboard with bringing on any quality prospects. I really want to see more internal continuous development rather than trading away actually. It’s the only way they can build contenders year after year, like Tampa. Certainly some will have to be dealt when needed but aside from Kirk, there has been little recently done where year after yeah you marvel at yet another prospect about to come in and knock it out the park. Houston seems to do that well. Really want to see some talent being developed. Was hugely disappointed in the Moreno deal, along with the Berrios deal a few years back as the quality prospects were heavy. I’d argue too much paid at the time for what they got back. It opens a can of worms and it’s been talked about to death, so I’ll leave it there.

Hopefully Berrios bounces back to the guy he was 2017 to 2021 - but it actually looks like Jays sold at the absolute right time on Martin and SWR.
Austin Martin is only one year younger than Bo Bichette and is struggling in AA and has shown very little power.

Even with Berrios poor season last year, you still do that trade. SWR and Martin both look like busts, especially Martin. This is coming from a guy who was initially pissed right off when that trade happened.
The jays have 17 home grown players on their 40 man, including key guys like Vladdy, Bo, Jansen, Kirk, Manoah and Romano. The Rays only have 13 home grown players on their 40 man. I think the Jays are doing a solid job of balancing development and trading prospects for proven MLB talent. Especially when you look back and see that none of the prospects they've traded have really done anything to make you regret them being traded. (obviously time will tell with Moreno).

The Berrios we saw last year was just the beginning, he's actually probably going to get even worse. Every season since 2018 he's gotten worse. While last year was a larger fall off from the year before it was still following the trend downward and all the signs were that sort of drop off was likely coming sooner than later.

If he gets any worst from last season he’s out of the league / not a viable MLB pitcher
Let’s hope he can at least get back to a respectable 3rd starter
