I don't find Vancouverites impatient, either generally or on the roads. They run a lot of red lights, but for the most part they are pretty easy going on the roads compared to a lot of places. Self-importance is a pretty Vancouvery thing though. Lots of people just focused on their own world.

Sounds more sociopathic, but yeah I guess impatient is a start to the description.

Homeless man who torched Burnaby sushi restaurant twice 'wanted to teach somebody a lesson'

A homeless man who set fire to two Burnaby restaurants – one of them twice – was “frustrated” and “overwhelmed” and wanted to “teach somebody a lesson,” according to information presented at his sentencing hearing.

“If not for the sprinkler system, the restaurant could have sustained catastrophic damage,” Sebellin said.

“Why he went back the second time to Sushi Oyama is also concerning,” Sebellin said.

Combined, the three fires wreaked $571,234 in loss and damages, $10,000 of which Sushi Oyama had to pay out of pocket in the form of insurance deductibles, according to Sebellin.

He indicates he did not know how to cope with his circumstances and wanted to teach somebody a lesson

Number of people leaving BC for Alberta hits 20-year high.

However “ While the number of people leaving BC for Alberta has hit a 20-year high, the number of people moving from Alberta to BC remains higher”

I assume a lot of the Albertans heading to BC are for retirement purposes.

Also, ICBC is going to turn me into the real life Joker I swear to god. Been waiting for my new license to come in the mail, they say it can take up to 60 days (spoiler, your temporary paper license is only valid for 60 days) so I hit day 50 and start getting a bit worried, call in and "oh, the system seems to have flagged you for an unpaid ticket so this was never processed", she looks for 5 seconds and sees that I ####ing paid the ticket and says she'll release the hold. No warning system that my license was being held, no email no letter no call. ####ing garbage government service, if I ever ran for office in the province my entire platform would be dissolving ICBC

ICBC is the worst. They've gotten better but are still really terrible. They have you bent over a barrel and know it.

Yup. And now that they've eliminated lawsuits, you are totally at their mercy if you get into an accident and can't work. I had a potential client call me, who had his hip broken in an MVA. Can't walk and return to his job in the film union. He'd just started 3 weeks ago, and ICBC benefits are based on your last year's wages. He goes from having a great union film job lined up to getting about $2k/month in benefits. He can't walk unassisted and there's no claim for pain and suffering.

Oh, yeah. This new 50-50 or no fault setup is brutal. I have heard a few horror stories around that.

Stuck here for now. Maybe if Calgary's filming scene gets a little stronger I could convince the wife to move but she has no interest right now.

For now I will continue to look a ####ty houses that are an hour away from work and will only cost $6K a month and cry myself to sleep.

In Vancouver, you can only pick two of those.

Pretty sad state of affairs.

News Release
Victoria
Tuesday, January 31, 2023 8:00 AM
As the province’s drug toxicity public health emergency continues into its eighth year, at least 2,272 British Columbians lost their lives to toxic drugs in 2022.

“British Columbians across the province are continuing to experience tremendous harm and loss as a result of the province’s toxic illicit drug supply,” said Lisa Lapointe, chief coroner. “Our province continues to lose an average of six lives every day, and many more people experience serious health consequences as a result of the unpredictable, unregulated drug supply. Death due to drug toxicity remains the leading cause of unnatural death in British Columbia, and is second only to cancers in terms of years of life lost.”
