TRU was still good under Fairfax but since Sunrise bought them they are selling more books and funko pop type things and the stores are much emptier feeling.

Videogame sales are basically low to no margin for stores, all Gamestops (ex EB) are basically compressed toy stores now.

Started playing axis and allies 1942 on steam. nice blast from the past. have no idea how we kept track of all of the units back in elementary and jr high school. cause for some arguments for sure! With the desktop game you can map out all of your moves and it keeps track of how you can retreat, available sectors to move to. Good time waster :d

So this was all three of announced, revealed, and released yesterday on Xbox Game Pass and PC. I played about 40 minutes last night and it's awesome! Definitely check it out:

That looks awesome. The video even triggered my vertigo lol, might have to admire from afar.

HiFi Rush is fantastic, damn.

Also played Tunic, neat little Zelda-like game.

Tunic was really fun and I don't think I scraped the surface of all its secrets.

Finally finished God of War and pushed through a bit of the post game content. What a great video game.

It’s one of those games where the more you put into it, the more you get in return. I love playing a game where you can tell the people creating it poured everything they had into it. The polish, the details, the writing, the acting- all of it excellent.

Some of the side content in this game is better than a lot of game’s main content.

If you’re even a little bit familiar with Norse mythology there are some very cool spins in this game. It had me guessing the whole way through.

I get some people are tired of the Sony third person action game, but for me this is an example of everything I love about games. Probably my game of the year.

finished Death Stranding. A very interesting experience ... on one hand, it had extremely frustrating moments, but on the other hand, I found myself hooked too. Like I said, I fully understand it's not everybody's cup of tea, especially since this one really is a Kojima special (weird, bloated story and all). Also took a lot of time in terms of settling in, but I'm glad I stuck with it. Would like to commend the soundtrack as well, very fitting.

I've been playing more Freedom Planet 2 since it has a secret ending and 4 characters to play. I'm still impressed by the scope of the game. It's nice to see they actually hired some real writers this time too. It's a worthy successor to the original and like other great sequels, improves on almost everything from the first game. Give it a shot if you like the speed of 2D Sonic games but want some actual combat.

My biggest gripe is the really lazy effort on the official soundtrack. It's a low quality game rip and I'm sure there's better rips on YouTube from fans. They have the source files...why the hell are they ripping it out of the game with varying audio quality and not even adding anything like fadeouts?

Recently acquired a steam deck which is pretty cool. It’s been fantastic to play my PS5 from bed haha.

I'm surprised how much I am enjoying this remake. It helps that the original was 15 years ago so I've forgotten a lot of details but they sure got the horror game formula right with this game.

Yeah, I expect that's the way I will experience it too... I mean, that's a long time ago, especially when you play a lot of games...things start to blend together...

That said, Dead Space was so unique, there is many games like it...so I'll remember most the set pieces despite the massive improvements overall

Finished The Last of Us part 1 last night.
It was good but definitely feels 10 years old, not as epic as I expected. It played on the easiest mode and got through it really quick, I was actually surprised when it ended as I thought I was just getting going.

older games were a lot shorter...like 12-15 hours iirc...

Modern games, esp open world games added a lot of extra side quests...like Far Cry 6 for example...Decent game, but it has a ton of extra side content that doesn't add much to the game, for me at least.

Dead Space remake is similar in its length, but linear narrative games from 10 years ago were shorter.

Me too. Anything over 20 hours is too much for me at times - I don't want to grind game mechanics for 40-60 hours.

I go the other way, I want to get completely lost in a game world for 100+ hours, but I generally enjoy any game where finishing the story and doing all the random side stuff takes 50-60 hours minimum. Anything less than 30 overall with a story under 10 hours feels extremely short.

Most games exhaust all their interesting ideas within 10-15 hours anyways. These so called epic and expansive open worlds are just the same 10-15 hours of ideas repeated 12 times. If the gameplay is really good, addicting, or innovative, or the story / characters really engaging, then I can stick with something for a long time.
