I dunno I am pretty happy with the food scene here in town. Steak and all.

Growing up in the 90s there was about 6 good places in town. LaCallie, LaChaumere, Hys, Ceasars, 4th street rose, and Ginger Beef in willow park… ha

All seriousness, does anyone remember the restaurant off crowchild that is now trinity wellness center? That was my 18yr old go to to impress chicks. I knew nothing about food but the girls seemed to be impressed

I went to ryuko for lunch in the old halo building last week. Japanese fusiony I guess. Was really good. I just had their weekday lunch menu and had the Katsu and the Donburi. Both really good.

Teatro and River Cafe were up there back in the day.

Can't remember what that restaurant was called. Drove by it umpteenth times too.

For sure, was joking around, but they are great and were great.

McQueens Upstairs was a gem too for dates. Lady on the piano singing while you dined was a slice of 90s Frasier style here in Calgary.

Would I spend my money going there? No.

For the same $$ I'd eat at Pigeonhole or Brigette Bar.
For a different experience: Lonely Mouth.
There IS actually interesting food in Calgary and it doesn't involve 1970s steaks. I'm probably your parents' age.

Agree on the quiet rooms at Hy's though...wish there were more places like that (also bars).
I like Hy's quite a bit. It's a nice place to have a dinner with someone and I like the ambiance. I also like places like Brigette Bar, but it's a different feel.

Went to Menyatai in Kensington on the weekend for ramen. Inexpensive, simple food. We quite enjoyed it.

Oh no, you are entirely correct about the state of dining in Calgary in the 90s. The food scene here has expanded and improved enormously in the past 20 years.

Mr Lube on Macleod has a sweet crude that might be to your liking.

The Arby's talk in the Last of Us thread has made me nostalgic. The state of them in Calgary is pretty much post-fast food apocalypse and everything seems to be a Carls Jr. Popeyes, or Freshii now.

When is the last time anybody has been to an Arby's in Calgary? All the ones I knew about have closed and shut down. I need to drink some Horsy Sauce and Arby's suace.

I was driving by Canyon Meadows and seriously considered grabbing a beef and cheddar with curly fries. Probably been mid way through Covid since I last had a sandwich shaved from a meat tube.

Recently I started going to Edmonton regularly for work and the silver lining is the abundance of Arby's they have up there. It's like Arby's last stand in this Country. Nothing like grabbing a beef and cheddar and some curly fries while you put that dumpster fire in the rearview.

Cross Iron Mills have Arby’s in their food court, but I can never bring myself to order one of their sandwiches when you have Big Smoke Burger, Taco Bell or Koryo to choose from

If you have the time to line up, the best thing to have for lunch at that food court is:

Burger: Blazing Pineapple Burger from Big Smoke Burger
Side: Large Curly fries from Arby’s
Drink: Large Cherry Iced Tea from Cha Chi’s or Pineapple quencher from Jollybee’s

Went to Chairman’s last night. The food is exceptional imo. New York strip was cooked to perfection (medium rare). The cheese toast and chicken fried oysters were really good as well. The double stuffed potato is a meal in itself. Would recommend.

Get the peppercorn sauce.
