Don't believe all of the prepared excuses Mark Lee kept trying to ram down everyone's throat.

Friedrich wins all the time because he's a genius pilot, he has the strongest team behind him, and training is his full time job. He also has unlimited access to the 5 best tracks in the world.

Blaming it all on tech is just ignorant and a story CBC needs to tell to justify Kripps not winning - given that the majority of Canadians woukd be thinking "didn't he win gold in 2018???"

It also flies in the face of all the people (and non German sleds) that make the podium during the World Cup season and how successful Kripps was this year even with a different sled manufacturer.

And are we supposed to believe Germany is only capable of making superior sleds for male drivers???? Lee conveniently forgets which federations were leaders in women's 2-man and monobob.

Sadly it seems like CBC is moving towards the NBC route in how every athlete needs are story to justify their result, true or not. I saw it in several different events.

Places like Germany put a ton of funding into their programs, whereas Canadian athletes (including Skeleton Mirela Rahneva) have come out complaining against the lack of resources Canada provides.

At the Beijing test event in October, Canada didn't even send a coach, while the Germans literally had a 20+ person team, while other countries sent 6-person support staffs.

Athletes literally paid out of pocket for everything from flights to accommodations to car rentals and even Canada's racing fees at World Cups, according to Rahneva.

Canadian athletes in the sledding sports have said they would never recommend someone to get into the sports despite how much they personally love it because of the lack of funding, resources, and poor culture.

It is more than a legitimate "excuse" to say that Canadian athletes, especially in the sledding sports, aren't provided nearly the amount of funding and other resources as other countries, which includes the top-end technology that places like Germany invest heavily in to give their athletes massive advantages.

The Canadian athletes like Kripps's team and Christine de Bruin are having such success in spite of the resources they are provided.

You are mixing up sports.

Mimi was speaking of skeleton and I don't disagree at all. Carding funding is super low for their team and it is sad they have to self fund, get 2nd jobs, and rely on a small support team. Runners are expensive but again look at the most successful skelly athlete on the planet- Martin's Dukurs is Latvian, not a beneficiary of German tech.

And the question was whether Friedrich won simply due to "superior" German tech. And the answer is no because Canada drives decent quality BTC sleds.

The bobsleigh part of BSC does get decent funding compared to other sports. And Kripps did go to the test event - he came in 4th in both races. De bruin had a bronze and a 4th and Appiah had a bronze and an 8th.

So like I said - unlike what Mark Lee kept trying to hammer - Friedrich wins because he is good, not simply because he gets good runners.

I believe it was during the third run coverage that the commentators were mentioning that Friedrich actually invests a fair bit of money into the sport of bobsled and helps to fund neighbouring countries in order to create more competition and a more level playing field.
