Duhatschek on 960 speaks pretty clearly about it being the Flames decision and them wanting to move on.
"He's just too slow".

He also referenced the distraction of having Jagr. He didn't elaborate, and I don't believe he was insinuating anything nefarious at all. But maybe the Flames realized it's time to focus on their younger players, players they can count on having in the lineup, and players that are capable of playing a 200 foot game.

You shut your mouth, Troy Brouwer is perhaps the greatest player to ever wear the Flames jersey. Ever.

Do the Flames trade him to the other team for $1? "Future considerations" (like a really, really good bottle of wine?). I'm guessing not waivers though?

Jagr positively impacts the team at a slow speed.
Brouwer negatively impacts the team at a moderate speed.
Clearly, the choice is easy.

Coiler fans wanted Jagr pretty badly before the season. We could probably get Chiarelli drunk and trade him along with Stajan and Brouwer for Draisatl and Klefbom.
Actually, this plan doesn't even need Chia to be drunk.

The Flames had to know how slow he was when they signed him. There's nothing surprising about his lack of foot speed to anyone.
I think they're more surprised how little he's been playing due to injuries. He's just really unreliable, I kind of forget he's even part of the organization at times.
I hope they can make it work, but it doesn't sound good. I think he's a positive influence especially with the younger guys.

I'd rather get rid of Gulutzan than Jagr ... I'm wondering if it's Gulutzan pushing for this .... I don't like how this is shaking down ...

The Flames may have known how slow his foot speed was but his reactions and hands have slowed considerably as well. The injury has prevented him from getting back up to speed and it seems the Flames don't want to wait on him.
It's too bad, was pretty cool seeing that hair flowing when he was out there but honestly he is a shell of a NHL hockey player.

When it first emerged the Flames were interested in Jagr, Duhatschek and a couple other NHL insiders presented the pros and cons of signing him. On the con side was the "off-ice reputation" that you were getting with Jagr. They made it clear it wasn't any kind of substance abuse or anti-social behaviour, but it sounded more like an ego thing. I'd guess that's what the distraction is - that he's a superstar who has his own kind of gravitational pull independent of the team he's on.

So it was Jagr that made Gulutzan throw his stick at Practices last week?

The same thought crossed my mind. Timing coincides. Something about it bothered him.

It was the rumoured shakeup:
Treliving, in the day following the CHI game or after the LA game, likely did all these things within hours of each other, IMO:
Removed the distraction of F. Hamilton taking up a spot for non hockey related purposes
Told Jagr to shape up 100% or maybe ship out, or, just ship out, nicely.
Did call ups
Told GG he doesn’t have those distractions to worry about any more, so shape up quick or ship out.
GG then made his semi last stand the next practice day to show who’s in charge and start pushing the buttons he wasn’t able to before.

Hands and timing, this season, almost completely abandoned Jagr.
That was his bread and butter. IQ is still elite . He lost the ability to translate what he saw on the ice to consistently making plays and finishing at the NHL level.
Understandable at his age.
The lack of foot speed was a given coming into the season.

^^ I agree. Kelly Hrudey mentioned in between periods that he was surprised it wasn't just his foot speed but also his hands that deteriorated this year. My guess is that has a lot to do with it.

They are certainly disappointed in his injuries but it’s not only that IMO. It’s not just foot speed - this team just isn’t good enough to carry players who can’t play a total game. It’s not easy telling a legend you’re moving on, but I’m glad the Flames have their priorities straight.

Yeah lets be honest its true...he had quite a few good looks that ended up in the goal tenders chest.
Flames are 5 games above .500 yet only 10-12 with Jagr...perhaps some rose colored mullets out there
