Also, do they breakdown the players into groups ? Elite players likely have more extended primes. Also, guys may break into the league and put up 40 pts, but then find their niche is a 20pt 4th line/PK specialist.

Your 2014-15 Chicago Blackhawks, only Saad is younger

Compare to your current 17-18 Flames top 10

Johnny Gaudreau 24
Sean Monahan 22
Matthew Tkachuk 19
Micheal Ferland 25
Mikael Backlund 28
Dougie Hamilton 24
Mark Giordano 33
T.J. Brodie 27
Sam Bennett 21
Mark Jankowski 22

Yeah, the Flames have a lot more time on their hands...
If the Flames are going to establish themselves as having had a successful rebuild the time to do it is now. One more year and they will be significantly delayed as compared to your other examples.

Tinordi is a goof but I think he's absolutely correct in his outlook for where the team should be going. In a season where everything is going right for the team in terms of their star players (and that includes Smith), when the team has no first or second round pick, you absolutely HAVE to go for it starting now.

Jankowski had a very normal development path though right?

Typically players peak offensively within their first 3-5 seasons but they become better overall players as they get older.
