I decided to purchase this after seeing it was 60% off. I'm having lots of fun and the graphics are beautiful however other than a few minor changes it is exactly the same from 5 years ago. One thing that bugs me is how they seem to have improved the AI for the opponents defence yet the AI for my defence is still useless. I also wish they had more jersey options. There is no white retro Flames and no Thrashers jerseys for the Jets for example. I am liking some changes to the franchise mode though which is where I spent most of my time.
Does anyone have advice for penalty killing? This is my biggest weakness in the NHL games. I've tried different strategies such as being aggressive or passive, icing the puck at every opportunity or keeping possession, and controlling a forward at the point or a dman in front of the net and nothing seems to work. This absolutely kills me in games as taking a penalty is almost a guaranteed goal and taking a 5 minute major is almost a guaranteed loss. Right now my strategy is to try and score a shorty to balance out the inevitable PPG. Any thoughts? My powerplay is also pretty deadly so maybe the arcade style high scoring nature of the game makes having a man advantage super advantageous and the best advice is to just not take penalties?
