Yup and that's what makes Burns so special, best player in the league at that IMO, hell he might be the best ever at it.

Agreed, and they are taking way too long to pass it and the passes are too slow. The PK has plenty of time to adjust. They need to whip it around and take advantage of the open man.
IMO zone entries aren't an issue. They gain the zone as well as anyone.

IT's a 1-3-1, it's what they have played all year.
It's not like he's putting Monahan on the point.

The Wild is so stupid. I'm just generally uninspired by this team at this point. Stalled out as first round speed bumps for legitimate contenders, and now they're playing like they're bored, too, certainly on the road. I guess it's good (for the Wild) this game is in St. Paul, but what I would like to see is evidence that they learned from the butt-kicking the Avs laid on them on Saturday. Because this much I know: if the Flames win, Wild players will say some variant of the cliches hockey players use to describe inconsistent efforts ("have to be ready to play", "need to play a full 60", etc). It's just trite and off-putting at this point, with this team.

It is puzzling as to why he can't get in over Stajan or Lazar. I guess because we are on a winning streak but still.

Smart move. Near the blue line is totally his office. In fact, he's deadly from there... someone pull up the heat map to prove me right.

Completely misleading. At one point it was in last place last season. It took a 10 game win streak and it finally clicking and scoring multiple goals per game at the end of last season, for it to end up where it did.
Give me a powerplay that is consistent throughout the season and chips in when needed, over one that is streaky and a scores a bunch of goals in a blowout game that ends up ranking it higher then it should be.

PP percentages can be misleading.
What I care about is: can they get that big goal when you really need it? If the Flames are down 1 in the 3rd, and get a PP, how many people here honestly believe they are going to get it done? They never do.
Compare that to Anaheim for instance. The PP percentage is probably just about the same, but give them a chance in the 3rd period of a close game, and you know they are going to step up.
Subjective? Yes.
But when was the last time they got that big PP goal they needed?
Personally, I can't remember the last potential example.

I blame Stone.
If he could actually hit the net we might have a different look and have an effective bomb from the point...
Like if we had 2 choices between Monahan in the slot and/or Stone at the point...really wish his shots would get thru and be on net.

It's a simple If/Then/Else logic as the dman brings the puck up the ice, and depending on how the PK is positioned, he can a) bump the puck back to a trailing gaudreau, b) kick the puck out wide to another forward, c) dump the puck in.
I am absolutely sick watching this team force the bump back every frigin time. I have no idea if that's on just bad coaching or players not using their heads and figuring out the other options there as they bring up the puck, but this is the NHL. Be better.
|
To be honest I see a lot of teams trying the bump back and not many can execute it like Johnny. He rarely gets stopped even know other teams know that it is coming... He is that good. However, it should not be our only option. Having 2 players on the PP that primarily pass hasn't worked.

Agreed. I would rather have Dougie at the point. He does a much better shot at getting wristers on net. Easier for deflections as well.

It keeps pausing for me. This game is blacked out in Toronto for some reason.
