Not yet they don't, which is why they didn't build it.

Can anyone find any information about adding a 3rd lane to the EB section of Stoney as it crosses the Bow River between Cranston and Chaparral?

They were supposed to have graded on the south side before and after the bridge to add another lane. I haven't driven that stretch enough times to remember if they actually did or not. It'll be a while before the bridge is actually widened, and they won't even try to predict it until the road opens. They will use ATR (automatic traffic recorders) to determine when sufficient traffic levels have been reached.

No, I'm saying they don't need two that close together, period.

If only one was an option, then I would have rather had 130th to alleviate congestion at 52nd@130th. A direct connection so people could head east to the ring road then head north would have helped. Hopefully in the mean time more people will head south then east on the ring road to go north. If not, SE traffic is still going to be a gong show.

I'm sure they and the city did extensive analysis (as they did for every component of this project) and determined that when the area is fully built out, it will benefit from an interchange at 130 Ave. The road is built to very tight design standards, there's a 500+ page document available on Alberta Transportation's website proving that. If they say it'll work, it will likely work.

For how little traffic 114th would get that is not directly related to the industrial area if the 130th interchange existed, there was never any need to put an interchange on that road. Especially given the bizarre alignment they were forced to use.

I will when I got home. Just drove the brand new part of Stoney down to Peigan. Street racer's paradise. I have a ton of pics I'll post up. This is a world class freeway folks!

Here's some pictures I took today of the newly opened section. Just an empty road, really. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...postcount=4437

I had provided the case for my argument in that post, but didn't end up making the point, which was about the missing accesses to/from Cranston. So in Toronto they've managed to fit 30 travel lanes in the space of 300 meters. So in the 470 metres between Cranston and McKenzie Lake they surely should be able to add the bridges and lanes required for the missing accesses. But alas, Alberta Transportation doesn't want to deviate from their new and extremely stringent design standards regarding weave and merge distances, the radius of loop ramps, and pretty much any other specification of the road.

Driving in Toronto is a nightmare as has been pointed out. At its widest the 401 has 18 lanes. 18! But it has 4 times the daily volume of Deerfoot. Both of those are crazy to think about.

Drove over this bridge today and they definitely have it prepped on either side of the bridge to expand to 3 lanes. If money were no object they'd probably have done at the same time as this project.

Well, that was fun. Coming southbound on Stoney there is no access to 17th Ave, so everyone has to go to Peigan. However, the light timing on Peigan westbound at 52nd street was already too short, and now they have added a whole lot of traffic trying to get through there. It was backed up to the overpass at 17th/Stoney. A 6 km long backup for a traffic light.

Some people were heading east on Peigan so that they could immediately take the ramp to go Northbound on Stoney so that they could get onto 17th.

So as of yesterday 52nd still isn't open. They did cover up the sign partially; which is making people hesitate to see if they should be going over the bridge now.
Spoiler!

However the road is nowhere near being ready to open. There an issue with a crater in place of where the road should be.
Spoiler!

I drive EB on Peigan all the way to 84th street and I could not believe my eyes at the traffic going WB on Peigan, the offramp from Stoney, and on Stoney itself. I was in shock, there were a million cars lined up.

The lights for EB & WB traffic on Peigan are about 11 seconds in length. They are timed for minimal traffic and the massive traffic flow that NB & SB 52nd street carry, plus there are no real turning lanes built there yet.

This is the offramp from SB Stony to WB Peigan at about 6:30am. You can sort of see the cars trailing off into the distance up Stoney.

Spoiler!

Once this is all opened up, it's going to be great, Deerfoot should be noticeably less congested during rush hour. Thanks to everyone who won't be using it ever for subsidizing my suburban lifestyle.

What a cluster ####. Surprised the roads department couldn't foresee this mess.

Lol yeah, already there were a few times when I'd used Peigan WB and it was backed up at 52nd even with minimal traffic, I was going to use it this morning but thought better of it.

Total cost is $769 million plus however far over budget they've gone. Most expensive road project ever in Alberta.
