Route help for today...
Need to get to ECTAS (erinwoods arena - just off of 52nd street) at 5:30 from Mckenzie Towne (say 130th Avenue).
In previous journeys, 52nd street NB can be devastatingly slow from glenmore to peigan.
Has the ring road taken enough of the pressure off of 52nd St NB to make it worthwhile or should we jog over to Stoney trail from 114th then back to NB 52nd via Peigan?

With the traffic backups getting back to 52nd along Peigan that there has been, I suspect that going 52nd might be the better choice.

Is the traffic not backing up on eastbound peigan? He would be travelling westbound from the ring road.
Personally I'd take the ring road.

Traffic on Macleod trail north bound this morning was great. Far less traffic.

52 St has massively improved, aside from 100 St it has probably seen the biggest decrease in volume in terms of a percentage.
Here's Redford, McIver, and Chief Whitney at the official signing of the deal for the SW leg today. I believe the next step is for the feds to officially redraw the boundaries of the reserve.

So is there a tentative date that they will start building the SW leg (at least from COP to Hwy 8)?

Not really. The time for the next process could wildly vary and the hwy 1 to hwy 8 section is not dependent on the new boundaries, I'm under the impression that they won't go ahead with it unless there's some major snag with the part of the route through the nation. Despite being three distinct projects they want it to go ahead as one.

Peigan Trail WB at 52nd St now has a third lane. There is 2 dedicated left turn lanes, and one straight/right turn lane. Drove through there just now, no backup.

Good to know, I will try this tomorrow. I had been going down to 50th to avoid the backups .
Oh wait, read that wrong. Was thinking EB.

Drove home to Cranston from the Genesis Centre after soccer Monday night and I only saw one other car - it was unbelievable.
The lack of exits into Cranston does suck and are kind of puzzling but it's not the end of the world. I certainly don't think I'll be going down 52nd and along Seton Blvd though - too many lights. I think I'd just exit NORTH onto Deerfoot and then come back SOUTH again off of the MacKenzie Towne overpass and then take the Cranston/McKenzie Lake exit.

Is there an estimate on how long construction will take, once it's underway?

For the majority of Cranston residents this is indeed faster and keeps traffic away from the hospital as well. I'm not sure why the province hasn't advertised this route at all.

After the federal government grants the right of way of the land to the province, the seven-year clock will begin on the project.
|
Will it be done sooner? Maybe. I'm not getting my hopes up cause there's lots of things that have to get done before they even start digging.

Saw that part. I mean 'how long will it take to construct, once they start digging'? I know that's a pretty tough question to answer. How long did the other legs take to actually build? 4 years or something?

3 years and a bit for the SE, I think... but this is a much more involved project. A few people were estimating that it'd take a year just to dig out the hill next to COP.

Doesn't the contract require the part through the Reserve to be opened by 7 years from today (the date the contract was officially signed)?
