I think this video illustrates a big part of what was so surprising in the playoffs. Tkachuk was fantastic in March—scoring 9 g and 16 pts in his last 16 games. And he had a great first game against Colorado. Yes, there were legitimate concerns about the top line’s reduced productivity heading into the playoffs, but Backlund and Tkachuk looked like they were going to compensate for that in Round 1.

Players like this simply don’t grow on trees. Technically, no one grows on trees, because trees are a form of plant life and humans are not.
