Offering a league min NHL/league max AHL salary, with a coaching mentorship added, might be enough to entice them, depending on where they see themselves.

Has Dan Girardi fallen that far, that he is an AHL D-man? I am sure he is looking for an NHL contract (PTO) still. He was playing 3rd pairing minutes for the league leading team.

Lerby and Yelesin are still developing prospects too. You don't want to be forced into a position where they are rushed into the NHL to play 4-5 minutes a night or sitting as a healthy scratch for large chunks of the season.
Depth is good because there is no harm with Petrovic sitting in the press box all year. It is better for developing players to play big minutes in the AHL, especially during their first season in North America.

I'm calling it now. The Flames sign Petrovic to a dollar amount higher than expected, then we all expect him to sit, only Brodie gets traded and then Petrovic slots in as the 6D all year.

If the Flames sign him it is a weird summer for the Alberts rivals
Edmonton: trade for Neal, re-sign Chiasson, sign Smith and Granlund
Calgary: trade for Lucic, sign Talbot, Davidson, Petrovic.

Thank god. Even with the injury to Valimaki, he is not needed. Same with Phaneuf. You dont need guys that are below replacement level. If you're stuck with them, even in depth positions, it's not a good thing. Give Kylington more ice time, give Davidson the 7th. Trade Frolik for a depth guy if possible. Anything but signing guys like this. Another recent example is Dalton Prout, what a waste he was. Grossman, Nakladal, Eriksson, babchuk... this franchise loves its bad defensemen through the years.

I believe that was Justin Falk who suited up for 10 NHL games last year for the Sens while playing just 18 for their farm club. Lotta popcorn.

Prout exceeded my expectations, and I really liked Nakladal’s game

I don’t think Nakladal should be in that group... he wasn’t too bad.

Yeah, Nakladl was in the Fantenberg/Schlemko category IMO. And not really given a huge opportunity to show his stuff.

Tre signed Yelesin and Davidson as depth. It's up to them who takes the spot IMO

Huska was on the radio yesterday and said either of those or Valiev could do it.
