I must be doing something wrong? I have been replacing my charging cable for my cell phone probably once a year for YEARS. The cable always starts breaking eventually on the end that goes into the phone and it's not like I handle the cable or phone while charging roughly.
What the hell am I doing wrong here? How do I stop spending money every year or less purchasing the same thing over and over again?
I have a braided Anker lightning cable that has lasted a long time, but the past few phones I've had have wireless charging so I almost never use it anymore.

From my experience, the number 1 way to kill your cable is to to try to bend it at a 90 degree (or more) angle from where you plug it in to the phone. If you can keep straight there it'll last a lot longer.
Maybe try a right angle charging cable if that's what you do.
Thanks for the replies so far. Like I mentioned, I don't feel like I'm overly rough with the phone while charging or anything but will look at the brand suggestion and 90 degree angle one as well.
I don't want to sound condescending here, but do you pull it out by the cord or by the little plastic part? I see people pull it out by the cord all the time and I feel like they tend to be the ones with the cords that break more. I'd have to think pulling the cord hundreds of times could cause some issues over time

The other thing that happens is if you use the phone while plugged in. When you use the phone, there are all sorts unconscious movements you make with the phone that put stress on the cable. Our daughter's cable died because of this.

I don't pull it out by the cord and my Apple lightning cable I sometimes use in the car has the same issue. Don't use the phone in the car either, but same idea just having it sit on the seat charging or whatever puts stress on the cable at its natural weak point.

I definitely don't pull it out by the cord, but at the same time, I most definitely use the phone while charging.
Those usage habits are probably crimping the wires inside over time by doing that, even if you're pretty gentle.
Based on your habits, these might help?
- A longer cable so that there's more slack while the phone is used
- 90 degree plug so that the charging head is levered less when the cable is bumped while in use/charging
- Heat shrink tubing or pen spring on charging cable to reinforce charging tip
- Wireless charging power bank while charging/phone simultaneously so that there are no cables while using your phone

Don't do it. I thought this was a good idea, but the reality is that it actually puts even more strain on the stupid cable end most of the time. I had a right-angle cable and it lasted for a few months before the connection to the device started getting spotty. If you need a right angle cable for some sort of mounting solution, then go for it. For day-to-day use, just get a good straight braided Anker cable off Amazon.
Why are you not charging wireless yet? Most phones have the ability. No plugging/unplugging is handy.
Uhhh because slower charging and its inefficiecent.
Power delivery vs wireless is night and day. I have e my phone set to stop charging at 85% so it's like 45 mins from a dead phone to full on power delivery vs hours + on wireless.
For iPhone MagSafe can charge at 15W vs 20W for a lightning cable so it's not that different.
I just put my phone on the charger while I'm working and it's always charged. Or for those who don't listen to audiobooks going to sleep put it on the charger when sleeping.
