Default Style police: Teach us!

I'm literally a style-idiot.

Edit for criteria: I work at a software company where I can get away with wearing probably anything, but I do still intend to wear them to the office that I sometimes go to. There's literally zero dress code, but the fact other humans are also there at the same time precludes me from moving all the way to "f-ck it" territory.

Post title-change context: This started as a "help me figure out which shoes to buy that I can wear with shorts to the office" thread, but has since evolved into a thread about how I (and other) unclean heathens can get our style- together.

More information is required. What kind of shorts? What is your intended activity?

I mean, people wear shorts and golf shoes, deck shoes, sandals, sneakers. You could just go with a low cut sock if that makes you more comfortable.

I find Converse shoes are generally acceptable to wear with shorts, they look great with or without socks (although I'd still wear hidden socks). But it really does depend on what the outfit/occasion are?

Sneakers or loafers. Both sockless (or I should say wear no show socks).

Don't wear sandals. Sandals are disgusting.

Oh! Tell me more about these hidden or low cut socks you speak of... I'd like to wear socks, but all mine are like typical sports socks.

Just don't wear shorts to work.
Dress code or no dress code, don't do it.

Are you playing a sport? Are you sitting on a patio, or enjoying a nice day out in the sun? If you answered no, don't wear shorts.
Offices are always cold anyway; you'll immediate wish you just wore pants.

Either sandals or nothing.

Go full Hobo and wander around barefoot. It sounds like in your line of work that will simply add to your aesthetic mystique.

I'm wearing a pair of Ralph Lauren no show socks with loafers right now. Similar to these

https://www.amazon.ca/POLO-RALPH-LAU.../dp/B00WF4250W

They also sell them at Hudson's Bay.

Holy cow. How am I just finding out that men are allowed to wear ankle socks now?

Came for shoe advice; still staying for shoe advice, but now also buying a boat load of new socks!

Maybe the style guys (and ladies) can start a thread with different outfit ideas for the rest of us. Like what to wear to a Christmas party instead of a boring business suit, or what to wear to a nice restaurant with the wife, or step up your office attire etc etc. Do's and Don'ts and the like.

Perhaps links to sales for certain looks too?

psssst based on your short photos you should be buying new shorts as well.

There is literally no reason to wear cargo shorts.

If you are going to wear shorts wear a nice golf short, or many board short companies also do a nice casual short as well.

Cargo shorts aren't ever the choice.

Wear volleyball shorts and a Beijing bikini on top.

And go barefoot in the office, might as well.

To be quite honest, it's extremely difficult for anyone to look good wearing shorts. Maybe if you're 6'3" and look like Chris Hemsworth. No matter what shoes you wear, the majority of us look like over grown toddlers when wearing shorts.

Further context: I did the same thing I do anytime I need to buy something... I went to amazon.ca and started filtering what I'm looking for. I got as far as this:

Athletic
Boots
Fashion Sneakers
Loafers & Slip-Ons
Mules & Clogs
Outdoor
Oxfords
Sandals
Slippers
Work & Safety Shoes

...and then I realized I don't know what to pick next. I'm literally looking for something I can wear with shorts. I have dress shoes I wear when needed, and I have nice shoes that I wear with pants, and I have literally one pair of red nike sneakers I wear with shorts. The sneakers are six years old and need to be replaced, but I'm not sure I want red sneakers again since I'm starting to actually care about what other people think...
