Could you imagine? Getting him and locking him up just before Mony/Johnny extensions would be beauty! We also have the assistant coach that coached him in his Hart trophy season which is a pretty good thing to consider as well.
From a thread in 2010:
Quote:
(Note: Hall's adoration of the local side cannot continue. "I've always loved the Flames, but this year I came to realize that I wouldn't be able to be a part of their team unless they maybe trade up," he says.)
|
He would be 28 years old and a UFA in 2 years time. Would you guys go all in on Taylor Hall?
Gaudreau ~ Monahan ~ Hall
Bennett ~ Jankowski ~ Lindholm
2 years from now ?

Quite the trio for putting their team on the power play

Wow this is a substantial stat when you consider how discipline Bill's teams have had. We could be a special teams power house with the forward arsenal we have and with the fact that we have a legit trio of players who can draw penalties. Special teams wins games and last year all but proved that in spades to us Flames fans ~ the moves Treliving has made have been so great to see!

Wow that's awesome. I like this deal even more now. Good work BT.

without a doubt. I would not think twice.
what a career story this would be. Get drafted by the Oilers and lose for a few years, escape the factory of sadness through a trade and win MVP, then sign for your childhood team and win a cup. Perfect

Back in the Hartley year (2015-16), Sam Bennett also drew 30 while Brodie drew 17 in 70GP.

If only our PP was any good last year under GG. It will be better this year with Peters and the new coaching staff. Hopefully the loss of Dougie's accurate shot will be offset by the new additions.

Better to draw 30 than to take 30, like recent.
Man I hope Peters turns this kid around

I'm with you.
He had 16 penaltys taken, plus a fight with Vlasic (? i don't remember this, but that's actually a good tradeoff), and 30 penalties drawn that year for a +14 penalty differential.
Last year he had 27 minor penalties taken and 21 penalties drawn, plus a fight with Josh Manson for a -6 penalty diffential.
How does a more mature, bigger, stronger player take eleven more penalties in less ice time? It's not a positional thing either, as he played more center as a rookie than he played last year.
It Peters can do his thing, the five of Bennett, Neal, Tkachuk, Gaudreau, and Brodie could have us on a constant and successful power play.

I am a little surprised that some people (mostly fans of other teams) think this is a bad contract. Neal has been extremely consistent and reliable for several seasons.
Any time you sign a quality UFA, you are going to overpay either on AAV or term (or often both). So pick your poison, or don't participate.
The AAV to me seems very fair for a player that has been this consistent and brings more to the game than just scoring. And people talk like 30 super old. Sure, the odds of him putting up a career year at this point are unlikely, but it would not be odd to see him stay around that 40-45 point range for the whole term of the contract. Even if his production was to decrease in the last 2 years, he is still likely to be contributor if he stays healthy. He has never been a player that has relied on speed and speed is usually the first thing that catches up to players when they age. Such players often have a hard time adapting because they always relied on their speed. Neal's game is about positioning, shooting and grit. Those things are not as affected by age as speed.
Add to that, there are no clauses that prevent him from being traded, waived or demoted in the event he does drop off a cliff, and this contract is a win.
