Out of the 7 long term contracts the players with a physical edge are Hanifin and Neal and Lindholm They had 1.1 1.0 and .7 hits / game in the regular season. These were the guys that stepped up their physical involvement in the playoffs.

Anderssen is another player that requires someone else to do the physical dirty work.
Ummm, no. And no.

We're all very impressed by Rasmus Andersson but if you start giving 4+ year deals to everyone on your roster you lose out on needed flexibility.

He's had 1 season.

IMO guys with borderline footspeed issues don't get term and if that means paying market rate every 2-3 years, so be it, because if/when the wheels fall off, it can be a disaster. It's important to remember that Rasmus is a diamond in the rough because there were serious questions about his dedication to being a pro and doing what was necessary in terms of fitness to get where he needed to be. Is he over those concerns or do they get magnified if he has 6 years of guaranteed money to look forward to.

Are you getting the best Rasmus Andersson when he's on year 2 of a 7 year deal? Tough to answer for a golden retriever sitting at a computer.

Valimaki and Hanifin are your guys with term imo, Andersson is your guy making market rate that you can move if need be for help elsewhere in the lineup and you pray to god Kylington turns into something.
Ryan Ellis signed a 5 year deal coming off his ELC for 3.62% of the cap in 2014.

In the 2013-2014 season he scored 27 points and averaged 16:04 minutes of icetime per game on average.

3.62% of the cap represented a 2.5 million AAV.

This year, Rasmus Andersson scored 19 points managing basically exactly the same icetime as Ellis did, 16:02

3.62% of 83 million is roughly 3.1 per

What will complicate things is the Flames decided to pay Michael Stone 3.5 million coming off a 15 point season at nearly 19 minutes per night.

Andersson's agent is going to be able to point to that buyout worthy contract and say 'my client deserves _____'. Stone's contract represented 4.67% of the cap.

I'm going to guess the Flames offer Rasmus a 2 or 3 year deal at 3.4 per, roughly in the middle of the Ellis and Stone deals.

Was Stone RFA or UFA? I dont recall. If he was going to be UFA, its a different negotiation.

He was going to UFA.

The year Calgary traded for him he had signed a 1 year deal with the yotes for 4m that would take him to UFA status, then signed a 3.5m deal with Calgary after a lacklustre season.

It's a different negotiation, yes, but Stone's 4m RFA contract is sitting there as a comparable as well.

Of course, Stone put up 36 points in that RFA season before signing for 4, so, that ill be used on Calgary's side of the negotiation as well.

19 points is 19 points.
