Flames Flames made an ELC contract offer to Emil Djuse? UPD: Signs with Dallas

News Update

His agent told Expressen that Djuse has multiple NHL offers for a 1 year ELC in the NHL if he wants to play in North America next year. The article mentions that the Flames are believed to be among the interested clubs but the agent won't comment on the specific teams interested in him.

https://www.expressen.se/kvallsposte...s-backstjarna/

According to the article it would be a 1 year ELC (this is because he is 25 years old) and for the max entry level base salary and signing bonus. All ELC contracts are 2 way

stats:
https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/20013/emil-djuse
25 year old 5'11'' Left shooting d-man with 6 goals and 16 assists in 49 games in the SHL this season

Djuse was the 24th ranked European Skater by NHL central scouting in 2013

Sounds like he is getting an NHL deal though. Doesn't mean he wouldn't be in the AHL, but he'd be gettign a one way deal I bet.

Article from Feb 1

https://www.eprinkside.com/2019/2/1/...t-to-nhl-teams

Quote:
Emil Djuse, Skellefteå

He won a silver medal with Sweden at the World Juniors in 2013, but went undrafted and had a bit of a tough time at the SHL level early in his career. After coming to Skellefteå in 2016, things started to fall into place for the intelligent rearguard. Djuse has taken strides each year, and now he has become one of the best defensemen in the Swedish league.

His underlying numbers are strong, and he’s on pace for a career high in points. Earlier this week, Sweden’s head coach Rikard Grönborg picked Djuse to play in next week’s Beijer Hockey Games, which gives the 25-year-old a chance to show his skills at the international level.

NHL teams have Djuse on their radar.

“There’s a lack of defensemen on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, which means his chances are getting bigger”, Djuse’s agent Jacob Hedin told Norran.se a few weeks ago. “There are several NHL teams that are looking at him.”

If it happens and it is a one-way, I wouldn't read too much into it. A ton of European players came over last summer and when they didn't crack the NHL rosters, were placed on unconditional waivers and went back home.

It's basically a risk-free ploy from a team. If the guy makes the team, good. If not, he goes back home and you lose the contract.

Not saying that's definitely the case here, but there seems to be an unspoken agreement with these European free agents.

Competition is always good, but with how deep the Flames are on the blueline, I'd be surprised if he chose the Flames as there'll likely be other teams with less depth which will provide him with an easier opportunity to crack the lineup.

Another asset. Sometimes they pan out, more often than not they don't. But hey, why not? I assume this is a Hakan Loob suggestion? Trust the Loober.

Don't we already have enough defensive depth?

We have Valimaki, Andersson, Hanifin, Hamonic and Fantenberg.

Maybe he could replace Stone? I feel like we should focus more on improving our bottom 6.

Janko, Benny, Czarnik are not producing enough. I wanna say Haths but he's our enforcer. Maybe replace him with someone who can score more points.

Yeah on the big club. Our defensive depth in the minors is bad.

We already have the best one named Jordansk. I'd love to get a Lidström in there - any Lidström
