I bet Washington doesn't go out in the 1st round with Trotz behind the bench.

But I guess he gets the last laugh, taking an Islanders team who lost their best player to the 2nd round, and possibly beyond, and the Caps are golfing.

He became the head coach 19 games into the season and coached them to a 38-19-6 record. On paper that looks like an impressive turnaround.

I'm with those who are not convinced. St Louis had a solid roster that was underperforming and then went on a run, it's not a bad roster that he's turned into gold. Plus he was a part of the problem as the assistant coach.

But it is what it is. Stories win awards. Quietly winning the conference doesn't.

Every coach is a potential finalist. The 3 they announced just ended up with more votes than anyone else. It’s not like voters were limited to picking from only these 3.

For me it's not even close considering the circumstances of NYI losing their franchise player for nothing in the summer. The Blues and and Lightning were, for all purposes, exactly where you'd expect them to be when the regular season ended.

As for Peters, good season for sure, but really he just got what he should have out of this team after Gulutzan basically submarined a very good roster for two full seasons. If he comes back next year and get's the team to an even higher level, I think we can start to talk about him winning this thing.
