Oilers can't be an option.
A rookie GM trading a fan favourite to their biggest rival to go help them win a cup? Yeah, I don't think Conroy is that dumb.

Tampa’s certainly in the market for D now too. Maybe a match?

He has literally traded 2 pieces to a Canucks team that is higher in the standings than the Oilers.
I really don’t get why many on here forgot about how hated the Canucks are. From 04-15 they were a bigger more hated rival for me than Edmonton. Don’t get me wrong I would cheee for them against the Oil today but Conny traded Lindholm to Vancouver which is a bigger impact than Tanev to the Oil. If it is the best return he needs to look at it

After the Jeannot trade, do they even have any draft picks left?

“You only have three retentions, so you have to be careful with those,” said Conroy, who hinted that the financial wiggle-room also opened the possibility of acting as a third party to broker deals between two cap-strapped squads. “Those are valuable also.”

If Conroy decisively wins the trade, I doubt anyone would be upset. Conroy has been around long enough to understand the rivalry at play.
If he received little back, I would expect the fan base to be quite vocal in regards to the trade.

The 2 are not the same in the eyes of most fans.
I'd never forgive Conroy if he made a trade and helped the Oilers win the cup; I don't really care of Vancouver wins it.
The risk/reward of trading with Edmonton just isn't worth it.

I’m not so sure about that. No doubt that Lindholm will benefit the Canucks, but Taney would be a massive boost to that Oiler blue line. They would be a much harder out in the playoffs with him on board. I don’t even want to think about it.

And during those years did we ever trade with Vancouver (aside from Baertschi)? I don’t recall. And we traded with Edmonton a couple times IIRC. I don’t want to help those losers at all.

There's 3 apparent wagon canadian teams coming out of the West in the Jets, oilers and canucks.
Good chance one of them goes deep.
I think the Jets would be the easiest to stomach especially with Monahan.
Too bad the flames are what they are, it could be fun to have all 4 western Canadian teams battling it out.

Conroy has taken the best offer each time. I just can't see the Oilers tabling the best offer.

I just don’t have much hate for Vancouver at the moment. They gave us a pick that turned into Andersson. They blew their pick and left us Tkachuk. They let Tanev leave to us for reasons I’ll never understand. Thanks to Demko we could have Marky. They gave us too much for Lindholm.
Stajan.
Ferkland.
Their players aren’t despicable. They’re actually fairly earning their position and quietly. The complete opposite of the Oilers. The media doesn’t gobble them like they do the Leafs and Oilers. 100 Vancouvers wouldn’t be enough to match the amount I despise the Oilers.
Vancouver is nice. Edmonton is a dump.
*I don’t personally know any Canucks fans so never have to deal with that side of the rivalry.

Yeah, they don't have a lot that interests me. Their 1st rounder in 2026 I guess, but would you do that?
Holloway and Broberg are approaching bust territory.

This feels like the hours leading up to Lindholms trade.
Twitter abuzz.
I'd be shocked if it wasn't the Leafs at this point.

I'd hope the Flames could move Tanev for a good center prospect, but I'd be happy if they moved him to New Jersey for Lenni Hameenaho. I think the kid has some serious potential.

If the Oilers gave us Bromberg and Holloway, you drive Tanev to the airport. I hate the Oilers too but that's a trade you just don't turn down.
Also, some of you need to remember we've traded with the dark side a few times before. This isn't some revolutionary concept.
And if you think it is, then you're showing just how worried you are the Coilers could win the cup

What do you care if there is retention on an expiring contract? Are you paying for it?
