Perhaps I am clueless but I didn't know that the standard was for Type C to be on both ends going forward. I didn't realize this until these rental cars had the new standard and I just could not understand when and why these changes were made.
I do know that the Type C is the universal standard port for devices like Android and Apple but I did not know it was also on all ports for computers and more on both sides of the cable.
I don't use a mountain of tech and keep my devices longer than most so I just was not aware.

USB-A has limitations that USB-C doesn't have. It's not simply a difference in the size of the plug. It's also almost 30 year-old technology.
If the car makers kept putting USB-A connectors in their vehicles, they'd be locking their buyers into mid-90s tech for as long as they own the vehicle. People upgrade their phones a lot more frequently than they upgrade their cars (well, most people). They probably thought it was better to put the latest tech in their vehicles even though it might require a few people with older phones to buy a new cable than to put in old tech that will limit what everyone can do for as long as they own the car.

The past couple rentals I had had both connectors, the A one was just hidden in the arm rest storage.

The solution for most of this is wireless charging. I finally upgraded to a new phone and just laying the phone on top of basically a little coaster is great.

Honesly, I really want to lay a nail strip at the end of my driveway some days. My truck has also been hit twice by people pulling in with no concept of space, both times the person drove away without saying anything, both I assume were delivery types people in unmarked cars, as I didnt recognize the cars.

As I was reading this, I was starting to think about joking about putting down a spike strip but you went there yourself. I just ask you to film it now. Maybe stream it?
EDIT: Or get some of these? They're getting mainstream with how easy and fast it is to steal cars off your driveway these days. Coupled with lax Canadian bail laws, it's a free for all.

Can we also add people that park in front of driveways during the winter waiting for their kids bus?
Our house is near a bus stop and it happens daily.
The other day I knocked on buddy's window asking him to move, cuz my wife needed to go to work and he gave me attitude. I mean he moved but he didn't seem to happy.
It was maybe -2, #### let you kids stand outside. It will tuffen them up

I couldn't imagine being upset that you have to stop inconveniencing someone else trying to leave their own property. WTF is wrong with people these days?

That's fine for home as there are plenty of quality wireless chargers available for your house but a lot of automotive brands struggle (because they are ultra-cheap with interior electronics) with wireless charging as in a lot of vehicles they are little more than phone heaters. Ford totally removed wireless chargers from the 2025 Bronco because users were getting a hot phone and very little actual charging. Ford did this not because they can't provide a decent charger, but because they simply don't want to put in one that works that will chip away at vehicle profits. The reason you see laggy infotainment systems, terrible audio systems, poor wireless chargers, etc is because automakers purchase the absolute cheapest hardware that is deemed "good enough" by the beancounters.

Well no. It's because they have to have electronics that work between -50C and 50C.

That's not the reason that a lot of cars come with terrible wireless chargers.

Ignoring the confusing cluster#### that is USB C vs thunderbolt...
As getbak mentioned, USB A has limitations that USB C doesn't have. It's not just a smaller size, USB-C is basically able to at the low end send more power and data than USB A can by 2-4x and still increasing now imagine that thunderbolt 5 is already at 24x speeds and still increasing. Sooner or later I think thunderbolt and USB-C will merge.
USB A has a ton of junk in it that takes up space. USB C does not. It's basically like a sim card vs micro sim with additional performance benefits.
Just buy some of these for now or get a dual usb C cord. One thing I have noticed is that if I charge my phones using a USB A adapter on a two sided USB C, it charges half as fast as the dedicated USB C output plugged into a usb C power port. A cable with USB A on one side and USB C on the other is even slower than using an adapter. For now, keep some adapters on hand. They're inexpensive.

That gets me angry just reading that, so much so that I am angry Undercover didn't do more to the guy.
I still want a sheet of giant "can't park here windshield stickers that are not easily removed I can lay around the world.

Holy crap now I see why some people swear off of Costco. Mid afternoon at Beacon Hill. What a ####show. The NE one is never that bad.
I think you could improve the entire situation by throwing everyone who is on their phone into a snow bank. Get the #### outa the way!

Worst parking lot in the city. I go the Mallzac one. Much easier to get in and out of the lot.

The people in that store suck (the customers, not the workers). No appreciation for blocking lanes, they clog up at the samples, etc.
Taza is the best one I think (plus the cheapest and best run gas pumps).

I had an appointment up near there, and needed to go to Home Depot anyway, and figured while I was there I'd run into Costco quickly and grab a few things. That was definitely a mistake. I did learn from my last trip there to go straight to the east side for parking, which was nice. Everything else about it was not.
