As for our mid-season break next weekend, we should either hit up some batting cages or just practice in general at St. Greg's.
Its either that or hold a team SW All-Star game. None need attend.

I would like to do batting cages or just practice at St. Greg's!
Its my birthday weekend so I cant guarantee sobriety.

So we lost in a valliant effort tonight that included the team captain getting a sprained hand while on the pitching mound. However it was a close one... 17-15. It's a good thing we have a bye next week. My hand cannot take that again. For a while anyway.

I think you forgot to mention the guy who hit two home runs and played some good fielding. He was the second star tonight.
What are we rating them on fun factor? 10?

Yikes that's a close one. Tough loss. At least you guys are keeping the games close.

I'm not in town this weekend, so I'm out.
And FireFly failed to mention that after stopping that screaming liner (and showing the presence of mind to get the ball and record the out at first), she went up two innings later and smacked a solid base hit with one hand to extend a five run rally.
And yes, Redvan now leads all of CP with 3 home runs on the season.

We've got a bye week coming up and then we'll finish off our brutal four game road trip to start the season. Look for big things when the team gets back to play the home opener in front of its own fans.
You can see things starting to turn around. Firefly used her glove hand to knock down the line drive this week. We only let about eight balls roll past the outfielders into the infinite outfield. And that rally in the top of the seventh showed that every bat in the lineup can be dangerous. Don't under estimate the Puckers down the stretch.

No fences for us. We like our outfielders running... (If they'd just catch they wouldn't have to run so far! )
Update on my hand... the swelling is down a bit and it appears my middle finger took the brunt of that hit. Top two knuckles are bruised on the back of my hand, top one is bruised on the inside as well as the bottom one. Hurts to bend, hurts more to straighten, but I should be good to go for our next game.

Top knuckle is purple, middle knuckle is blue... bottom knuckle has one small spot of purple but it's the most swollen so I'm concerned that when the blood does come up to the surface, it'll be black.

As I said in my email FireFly, sorry to hear you were injured last night.
Over the last decade or so, I have seen a drastic drop in the number of lady pitchers. This has corresponded to the increase in bat performance over that time. Way too many ladies were getting hurt, and sometimes badly.
Personally, unless the lady is an "A" calibre ball player, there is no way in hell that I am going to put her in the line of fire on the pitching mound. You have less than a tenth of a second to react to the ball when it is hit. Even seasoned ball players with fast reactions get dinged quite often. I have been hit so many times it isn't funny (including one directly to the heart).
Please consider this when you choose who pitches each game.

This is why she pitches! If that was anyone else that ball would have smoked us in the face and we'd look like seasoned hockey players rather than casual slo-pitch players.
Hope FireFly recovers, and that nothing is broken in there.

I heard that the other team played down to your level............they let you catch up!
Heather, glad you are alright. It sounded like you almost died out there and then your replacement pitcher almost took a ball in the head! Also heard that you played the other team a little shallow and that is why they had all those home runs that lead to a win for them.

I'd be up for a scrimmage! Provided my healing goes well.
And I totally get that Shawn... Ross who hit the ball felt so bad I don't think he even tried to run for the base, just came to the mound to see if I was okay. It's all good. I knew it could happen when i stepped on the mound, (I was even talking to Gail about it before the game!) Perhaps we can further practise pitching to see if anyone else has the mad skillz that I do.

Ross dinged you? Oh man, he is a big boy. And a pitcher too!
A quick tip if you are going to keep pitching. NEVER throw a low, outside pitch. I call them pitcher killers for a reason. Most people try to pull the ball, or have a natural tendency to do so. With a low outside pitch that ball will almost always come rocketing back up at you.
(oh, and we hit 100 pages for this thread!)
